So I've been looking at C6 for sale around me and my question is whether it's worth it to get one with Z51 package or it won't make a big difference if I get a non-Z51 package since I'll be changing the wheels/tires, shocks and sway bar to something that would be more competitive for AS class?

There are a lot more non-Z51 Corvettes for sale around here. Thanks guys.

Z51 also got better brakes, different traction control program, and additional fluid coolers.

I'd go with Z-51 if you want a more performance orientated Corvette.

Be sure to read the owners manual thoroughly.

LOL. Yes! That's what I thought this thread was going to be about.

EDIT: Apologies to the OP for the unhelpful answer.

If you can outdrive the Z51 stuff, save the cash and use it to upgrade a regular C6. Mine does have the Z51 package, and it's perfect for me as a daily driver.

Also get different gearing on the z51. Id say go Z51, unless you find a smoking good deal on a base model.

And when you find a Z51, most people / dealers don't know what they have so its a "free" upgrade.

Z51 is actually an rpo code which on most gms are listed on a plaque in the glovebox.

Open glovebox find list look through it for z51. It has the codes for all options on vehicle

The 05s have some driveline stuff with the diff, typical first year BS.

If the C5s have taught us anything, its worth buying one of the last 2 or 3 years of production, not the first.

Most people seem to say buying 2008 and up is the way to go due to the LS3 motor and a variety of improvements.

Is there any known issue with either the LS2, LS3 or LS7 engine? Somehow I am thinking that there is some know issues with the LS7 engine. Inventory of C6 Z51 in the DC area is kinda thin so I've added the Grand Sport and C6 Z06 to my list. I think I can get the Grand Sport or C6 Z06 in the mid$30 range however, somehow I keep thinking that there is a known issue with the LS7 in the C6 Z06. Any thoughts?

I thought it was the LS2/3 that had starvation problems in long corners? Not the LS7 since it's dry sump.

Z51 also gets bigger brakes, oil cooler, trans cooler and power steering cooler. It has a shorter first gear also. It's worth it. You can find the code in the glovebox. Someone mentioned driveline issues, I have no idea what they're talking about and I own one and have done quite a bit of research. The LS1, 2 and 3 have issues when you combine a really good driver, good suspension and slicks. Street tires or DOT R comps don't seem to generate the level of grip required to have the oil starvation issues. The LS6 drains oil back to the sump fast enough that they don't usually blow up and the LS7 is dry sump so they're usually ok. Decide on your budget though, most people don't cross shop an early Z51 with a Z06 since one costs almost double the other. They are drastically different cars. I highly recommend an early C6 over a late C5 though, and I've had both.

LS7s definitely have some issues, valves IIRC.
