I always liked the radio announcers better, but they were never broadcast in NY so we only heard them on vacation until we got XM. Eli Gold had probably the best voice in NASCAR.

NASCAR refers to their events as "shows". IMO that mindset is what makes them more wreckidy wreck prone. Wrecks are more of a show for their fans than what races like LeMans are.
Watched the 1st stage and then from the last (regulation) restart to the end. Was surprised to see Stenhouse win without wrecking someone. Overall, decent race. Big wreck in the middle was caused by green flag pit stop blending, not straight up pack racing. Disappointing to "finish" under yellow but there was no real safe way for them to race to the line.
I fully support the end of plate races. Give them 900hp and pull those spoilers off. Not just for the superspeedways...give me that rules package all season long.

Yes. The plates are physically gone, however the engines still make less HP on superspeedways than on other tracks. Creates the same effect.

My understanding is that the throttle response is much better than it was in the old carburated restrictor plate cars, which was one of the biggest complaints about those races.

Plate races are just the colloquial term. They use tapered spacers with different sizes based on the tracks (Daytona, Atlanta, and Talladega use the 550hp spacer)
I thought it was nice that the Commercial Channel was able to show snippets of the race during the normal broadcast of commercials. The humming noise you could hear in the background was Bob Jenkins, Larry Nuber and Benny Parsons spinning in their respective graves.

That could be a very fun short track and road course package. At a track like Daytona you'd kill a lot of people (drivers and spectators) running that package.

Nah, they'd have to brake for the corners. If you'd feel more comfortable, pull the diffuser too.
