We are considering a new Hyundai Tuscon or Kia Sportage (among others) as a replacemnt for the wife's CR-V. I am looking for info on the port injected 2.4L 4-banger in the Hyundai/Kia. Does it have a timing belt or a chain? Is it the same as the 2.4L in the new Sonata but with a different non-direct injection cylinder head? Or, is it the same engine as the previous gen Sonata? Is the block (and other parts) from the Hyundai / Chrysler / Mistsubishi 4-banger design partnership from a few years back? Is there any negative history / things to be worried about with this engine?

Any esperience / thoughts on the Magna Dynamax all-wheel-drive electro-hydraulic coupling would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ray

No experience with that engine or model of Hyundai. Had a 2000 Elantra w/2L 4DOHC & AT. Daughter thrashed that car for 100,000 w/minimal oil changes and it still ran. She drives a 04 Tiburon GT w/2.7 V6 & 5-speed manual with over 100,000 and it runs great. Just bought my Korean wife a Sonata Limited V6 w/3.4 & 5-speed autotragic. So far no issues.

Ray, I apolgize in advance. The "Sportage" name just has a creepy sound to it. Just sounds kinda dirty to me........like something found on a hotel room bedspread.....
