What would yall say a 95 FD rx7 with bad apex seals, and beat paint but a straight body and clean interior is worth?

Scrap you can drop it of in my front yard.

Seriously though:

  • Body panels, Salvage title and a VIN - There's a couple on CL for about $4500
  • Complete-ish, Salvage title are generally in the $12k to $17k range.
  • Complete and clean title seem to range from $18k to unholy.

I suspect somewhere in the asking range of $7k to $9k for it. Depends if the housings are scrap or not. Not that I've been on the fence about buying one for years or anything.

Ive got a line on one through a friend, was told body is straight but clear is peeling. The one picture ive seen does reflect that.

Interior us good...dont know

Apex seals are bad so it starts and immediately dies, been sitting for a few years.

5k.

I think he said its a clean title, im waiting on more info and pictures.

I was thinking this was a good deal, and was curious what yall thought

The last FD I came across in my neck of the woods was $7500 for a stripped shell, and it seems like they're only going up in price now

I wouldn't be surprised to see $10K+, especially if the interior is in good shape and it includes a good transmission.

Sounds like the apex seals didn't actually break, so it might be rebuildable.

5k sounds like an excellent price. If you don't buy, someone here will.

The question is do you have an LS ready to go?

Actually i do, have my pick of about 6, but it think id just fix it do some reliability mods and leave it mostly original.

Probably have to sell the miata or the vette to make room though, decisions decisions.

For $5k I'd go get it anywhere in the lower 48 (seriously.) You can't even get a clean shell for that.

Yeah, I would expect a $5k FD to look very rough.  If you have the 5 grand, the motivation to fix it, and a place to put it, you should be buying it now.

"Starts and immediately dies" sounds like a fuel issue, not an apex seal issue. Before yanking that motor, compression test it. You might just be scoring the best deal ever on an FD. It could be a $500 fix that turns a $5,000 car into a $15,000 car.

Starts and dies is not apex seals. Fuel pump or an FPR are where I would start. Also. Put some ATF in the plug holes and slowly spin it over. Do the several times before trying to start it. Due to it sitting for that long.

If it starts every time, unlikely to be bad apex seals.  Buy it ASAP before the owner decides to dig into it and the price will double

Where were all of you when I was trying to sell mine (on this website) with a new engine and receipts receipts receipts for $12k?

In the process of buying another house and moving across the country. I wanted it in the worst way but it wasn't the responsible thing to do at the time.

I had new bushings and pillow ball bushings priced out and everything. I was kinda sad you sold it before I got to it.

+1 on the compression check.  It's probably too much to hope for, but the engine could be good.  Few things are as often mis-understood as the rotary engine, even among the very knowledgeable people on this very forum!  Starts and dies immediately could be the engine trying to run on just one rotor.  Still, first step is compression check.

Had i known, i would have purchased it. Looks clean.

So i got the first hand info from the owner today and apparently its an auto not a manual, definetly bummed, but it does only have 43k miles and he thinks its fuel related and not seals because he can soak a rag in gas and put it on the intake and it runs.

On the fence now, id have to do body work and seeing if a trans swal is feasibld

At 5K, fix it and flip it for 10K. Take the 10K and buy whatever.

Still buy it ASAP, even with an auto a solid runner could easily get around 10-15k and then you can go from there with profit!

Sorry for being an ass guys.  I just had to struggle to sell mine for 12k, and it was a nice example with a clean title and new engine and transmission, among other things. And ever since I keep hearing that any running car is supposedly 15k and nice ones are $$ZOMG$$. My experience leaves me wondering where those buyers are.
