Datsun1500 wrote: The best cars to flip are well known, cheap cars, like the Escort mentioned above. Non mainstream cars are a hard sell in most cases

Quoted for truth. So many people I talk to want to get into flipping so they have a chance to play with some interesting cars, but the path to decent profit and quick sales is in appliances. I've consistently made more money on flips with generic 4 door econo boxes than I have with anything interesting.

If you are going to get into "interesting" cars you need to know the car, know the unique market for the car and outlets to sell it, and be prepared to wait a little longer for the right buyer. I had decent luck with fiats, alfas and aircooled VWs but only because I was heavily involved in those communities and knew where to sell it and what things to fix to make it desirable to the buyers in the market.

CarKid1989 wrote: what do you about titles? I know there is a limit to how many titles can pass through your hands.

Varies by state, I think NJ says I can't pass more than 10. Which is why many serious curbstoners never transfer the title in their name (also avoids them paying taxes and is illegal)

Is that the driveshaft in question? That guibo is GONE!

Yup. So hopefully it only needs the Guibo after all.

Not bad......best question, does it still have a nikasil block?

If its been swapped before, that will add to your value down the road.

Lots of good advise so far.

As far as titles go - I title them in my name because I usually drive them for 3-6 months and sometimes over a year. Both my car and my wife's are cars I've bought to eventually resell. My last van I kept for 2 years and 45,000 miles - still made $800 and drove it for a long time.

I always get what I know how to work on and the occaisional parts car can be helpful if you have the shed or garage space for everything.

Make a list of spare parts you have and always date the entries just like you would a decent inventory system.
(Otherwise you'll have so much stuff you'll forget what you have)

You got berkeleying lucky. Take the money, run, and never buy a 7-series Bimmer again.

Oh, and good job

Good work... I have been flipping cars for the past 13 years (14 cars gone so far this year) and I rarely double my money. I am normally happy when ever I make over 800.00.

I have had good luck with oddball cars, but I would have to say I make the most money off of jeeps (wranglers and box Cherokees)

What do the Jeeps normally need?

A sludged up crankcase breather system usually makes leaks the folks think will need a lot of cash to fix.

This is the I6 engines.

Now if I could just prove everyone wrong regarding Maserati Bitroubles....

Wranglers normally need a few cans of spraypaint, seat covers and a cheap carpet kit (don't make fun it is all about eye appeal).

On a side note I just bought a stock 1997 4 door GS-R this morning to flip. It's kind of an oddball...

When I first saw this thread, I thought no way that it would end well.....good job!

I have flipped tons of vw/bmw/benzes, and never made money on any 7 series except parting out gray market cars (think 745i)
