Hi all, I'm having some difficulty with my "92 Cummins Dodge. The lift pump went out (low pressure, supplies the VE pump).

I bought a new Delphi pump from RA-the most expensive one they had-in hopes of this being a one and done.

^^^That's the new one next to old. The old one has the quick release to 1/4" NPT (at least, that fitting in the old one threads in to the 1/4" NPT fitting really nicely). The new one has what I am 99% sure is a M12X 1.75 (Fine thread).

You can see the bevel inside the pump inlet, but JIC doesn't appear to be the answer.

I'm getting zero love @ the FLAPS, and not much more @ the local hardware stores.

The NPT fitting was not bottomed out on the bevel inside the old pump, and was sealed with some schmoo.

I have been considering firing up the lathe, putting a bevel on this bolt, cutting it down, and sweating the two together.

I'm not against a short section of soft line, but not crazy about the multiple connections that would take.

The forums all say to upgrade to a better pump, and in hindsight, that seems like a fair idea, but I'm not rollin coal or looking for numbers. I also have the new pump in hand, and would like to use it. Running new fuel line from tank to pump is an option I'd rather avoid, and I see no reason to go that far.

Anyone got ideas?

I show two Delphi on Rockauto for that, only one lists 1/4 NPT

And the other

Did you order the HFP274?

Thanks Evan, will check. I am finding adapters, which I did not expect.

Edit: The answer is a yes. Silly me. I didn't check the threads before ordering. Guess I'll see what turns up.

Adapter ordered. Thanks Evan for teaching me to pay attention.

In reply to wheelsmithy (Joe-with-an-L) :

Been there, especially confusing when they both use the same OEM numbers.

All right, now I'm really annoyed.

I ordered an adapter from M14-1.5 to 1/4" NPT. Too big.

Luckily, I also ordered this:

M12-1.0. That's not what it said in the description.

Rockauto isn't helping by listing an Inlet Fitting Thread Size and an Intlet Fitting Thread Size...

Any hope of getting them to swap you pumps at this point? Hard to call when the return kerfuffle is going to actually be simpler than adaptation...

In reply to Jesse Ransom :

In first hindsight, I'd have just spent the $215 on this:

-Shoulda done my reaearch.

Second hindsight, should have returned this for the proper pump, but I'm reluctant to run RA's return juggernaut.

The way I'm working it, I should be able to get the pump at any parts store, and use it, be it metric or NPT inlet. What is entirely stupid is that by this point, I've spent enough ordering adapters that I could have simply pitched this metric abomination in the trash and ordered the NPT pump at full price, and have it be about the same. Luckily, I don't need the truck. Sometimes E36 M3 is just a pain in the ass.
