How do you match a voltage regulator to a generator as far as Amps .

if you have a 160 watt 6 volt generator , how many Amp voltage regulator can you use ?

it would end up at 27 amp , so do you buy a 30 amp or 35 amp , or does it really matter and can you buy a 40amp -50 amp ?

the old Universal 6v voltage regulator come in 35-45-50 amp ranges

I just do not want the generator to overcharge and melt the solder etc
