I think it was the Rav4 with a V6.
Probably the years where you could buy a Rav4 with a decently beefy V6 in it.
Yeah, the previous gen RAV4 with the V6 did a 6.3 0-60 and high 14's in the 1/4. Not bad!

A Vue with the Honda V6 is probably the closest you'll get to the Rav4 V6 for $3k. It has 250hp (vs 268 in the Rav4), but is also a little lighter. The AWD will be slower.
My (much) younger sister got a 2008 V6 RAV4 for her 16th birthday. I bet my dad she would tie my record for days elapsed between getting a license and first speeding ticket -- 10 days. She made it a year or so.
But yeah, those V6 RAV4s are very quick. 2GR-FE is an awesome engine. You can tell everyone you have the same engine as a Lotus Evora.

Yep I've got an 06 RAV4 V6 Limited bought new. That thing is fast. Son drives it now, it has 2220,000 miles.

In those years, the Rav4 V6 was the fastest 0-60 car that Toyota offered.
The problem with the Vue and Honda 3.5L is that it has the same problematic auto transmission as the Odyssey
A Subaru Forester XT is fairly quick too. 0-60 in 6.6s stock, faster with a tune because turbo. Although a $3k example would be pretty ratty.

When you said mini i was thinking maybe the Juke, but yeah the v6 rav4 is hilarious. I remember driving one right after i drove a stock ~2010 camaro SS/6spd and thinking the Rav4 exceeded expectations while the Camaro didn't meet them. There are people running 13 second 1/4 miles with bolt-ons on Rav4s. Hilarious.
Vue Redlines are not really anywhere near as fast but they are definitely faster than your average $3k SUV. Unfortunately I can't find any for $3k. I can find them for 5-6k, but now you're in the range that i paid for my V8 Porsche Cayenne and it's not as fast as a Cayenne either. I do think they are cool, for the right money.

Not quite as fast but still fairly quick were the 1998-only Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.9L and AWD. 245hp, 345 lb-ft. 0-60mph in 6.8 seconds, and 1/4 mile in 15.20 and 60-0mph in 126 feet. Not too shabby for something as weighty as a Grand Cherokee and possessing the aerodynamics of a refrigerator stacked on top of a larger refrigerator. Also, ZJ Grand Cherokees have the most comfortable front seats known to man. Kind of a proto-Grand Cherokee SRT-8. I have a friend building one into an autocross rig.
If it's any consolation, the Grand Cherokee has roughly the same amount of interior space as a Rav4 but you can get the 6.2 HEMI. Even a Supercharged 6.2 HEMI.
My buddy's girlfriend had a V6 Escape fwd that would start spinning the tires as you rolled on it in second, and keep them spinning until it hit third. I don't remember exactly what year it was, but I do remember being very surprised by that.
On edit: Research reveals that it must've been between '9 and '12. It seems that the V6 was 240 horsepower those years.

Any 04-07 V6 has the Honda V6. And they look better than the redline. Yeah, they aren't as fast... the numbers would suggest they are, but the Rav4 definitely wins in the real world.

My dad had a 2005 Forester 2.5XT with the turbocharged 2.5L and manual transmission. It was 210 hp and just 3200 lbs. That doesn't sound like much, but it had a shorter 4.44 final drive and did 0-60 in 5.3 seconds.
It was basically a WRX in station wagon trim. A common modification was to add the stock intercooler from an STI and stock turbo from a regular WRX. With that and a tune, they were supposedly good for 260-270 at the wheels. You can go further and add stock STI suspension, wheels, and brakes. A real sleeper.

It could not, stock - was the CD4E 4-speed auto in the 2001-2008 models and then a (better) 6-speed auto after that. A downsized Duratec came in the Contour (2.5L vs 3.0L) and those could be had as a manual. Contour SVT owners have swapped the 3.0 into their cars, so it makes sense that the manual trans could be fitted to the Escape, at least for the sake of bolting it all up. Not sure how that'd work with the AWD though.
I havent driven a 3.0/6spd Escape but i've driven 3.0/4spd and 2.5/6spd and I can definitely imagine the 3.0/6spd being a bit of sleeper. Now I want to drive one..
Also, for the sake of pointlessly discussing a v6/manual swap, there ARE 4cyl/manual Escapes. They're decent to drive too although not fast. So there are factory pedals and shifter to accomplish a manual swap into an Escape.
