I'm probably guilty of this too but we all tend to list our cars by model. XYZ123 or whatever.
could we please use the make once and then the model.
JaguarXKE
Datsun 240Z
Corvette ZO6
It really would help. I realize brevity is required and you'd like be be thought of as on the inside
Just start with make and model then go to the abbreviations.
I agree, it's gotten outta control between car models, engines, transmissions, etc. I avoid clicking thread topics if I don't recognize the secret code abbreviations.
In reply to NOT A TA :
Agreed, I don't follow or even care to know each and every car and chassis and their codes ever made.
I wonder why a Jag guy, even an American one, still uses XKE? It's a E type.
I want to swap a m275 in a w463 one day
Also, I'm looking for an LQ4, LQ9, LY6, L96 or LS2 to swap into my X27
I agree.
Or maybe a mod can create a sticky thread that lists EVERYTHING numerically and alphabetically. Master reference post.
The OM617.950 is connected to a 722.120 in my W116.120 but I'd be happier with an OM606.962 connected to a ZF-S5-320.
I for one love the alphabet soup.

Only if we have a rule of just one Jag V12 post a month from you.

Select code, right click, search google. Seems a whole lot easier.
Dont even need to look at any of the results most of the time...
I've got a 2006 BMW 325i which is different from a European 2006 BMW 325i which has the N52B25 instead of the N52B30 and it's also different from a 2006 325ci which was still an E46 with an M54B25.
I have to google the engine code for my 2002 BMW M5 every time I want to reference it. Why does the M car engine use an S prefix and the non-M car use an M prefix?

That doesn't work, when people use the wrong terminology. Like the guy who wants to tweak his 5.3 LS for towing. Well, for starters, a front drive mid size sedan is probably not the best vehicle for towing an 18' enclosed trailer. The LS4 is the only 5.3 LS that GM ever made. They made a whole lot of Gen III and Gen IV engines in 5.3l size but there was only one LS.
Next is people who invent terminology. Subaru never made an EJ25DET for instance, but someone decided that was a valid way to describe an EJ255 or EJ257 engine (the DOHC, turbo variants). I would absolutely love for Nissan to make an EJ engine series with a 2.5l variant, just so eBay listings get all screwed up.
Next is different things mean different things in different subcultures. FI means fuel injection to everyone except Honda dorks, to whom it means forced induction. TB means timing belt or throttle body depending on which tribe you are monitoring. And so forth.

The same reason they redid their numbering scheme for vehicles based on doors, than ignored it for things like 6 series Gran Coupe.
Owning a Honda makes this even worse. The engine codes, my god. The only reason I know what's in my CRX is because they put a handy badge under hood, and even then it's a long string of digits for 91 hp. Then you add in the fact that it's probably the only CRX on the planet with the original engine.

I've only got 6778 posts to your 10648? And you want to muzzle me about the one of the only subjects I know much about? Surely you're not threatened by me? ;-)
I thought this would be about the rule about having a separate "NMNA Car for Sale" category so I don't have to slog through the CL listings.

A GRM forum list wouldn't catch that either.
The beauty of Google is, even if people are inventing engine names, they get indexed and show up search results. Search EJ25DET and Wikipedia Subaru EJ series is the first result, so it will at least get you in the ballpark. KA-T is a great example. Never made from the factory, but google it and its pretty clear what someone is talking about.
If google + some context can't help you figure it out either A) the OP is probably being confusing and nobody else can figure it out either or B) you are in the wrong place.

I dunno, I usually go with EFI for fuel injection, and FI for forced induction, and I'm far from a Honda dork
I remember posting a thread a couple years ago titled "towing with an XJ" Imagine my confusion when I got a bunch of descriptions of a Jeep and I had to clarify "X308 Jag."
In reply to Curtis73 (Forum Supporter) :
I responded to a similar Jeep posting.
How about, if you post a vehicle you found on CL, FB Marketplace etc. to share here you post a pic of it also (besides the link, of course). Everybody likes hotlinking, right?
Would save a lotta clicks.
