I agree with 1-3. #4 is not even remotely true (in my opinion) until you do A LOT of #2 and #3. And I mean *A LOT*.
I have a 91 Firebird V8 5spd that is Stock aside from 36mm/24mm sway bars. It handles well. It does not plow through the corners much at all. if anything its tail happy. It is Definitely Fun to drive. Proof:https://www.youtube.com/embed/0ZUf80P7JmE You do not need to modify V8 Thirdgen F-body's much to get a fun good handling car. As for the widest tire without mods, 275 is about it. you can fit 315's on a 17x11 wheel front and back, but need to roll fenders and add a 1/4 Spacer up front. Lots of useful info on frrax.com (Fbody road race & Autocross forums)

hard to get useful info from a page that won't let anyone new join up..

It's a PITA, but it is possible to join, just have to email one or the admins. I don't think I still have the email address and I don't recall where I got it from, so unfortunately I'm not much help.

Much better looking car than the 4th gen imo. Love 80's future optimism design.

California edition IROC-Z is probably my fav.

Yeah I can't understand why these aren't stupid money already. I get that they're not as sexy as 70s T/As but still as an Irish teenager I lusted hard for these American gals. I'm sure there's still eleventy million of them out there.

Mitch Fowler has or had one(Z-28) he got as a high school Grad. present and last time I saw it, it was around 20 years old, and only had 5 miles on it, Black W/Black Int.W/Silver Piping. And well, brand new.

I lived in FL for 15 years. I never used the AC on any of the cars I owned. It actually worked on most of them too.

I stumbled across an '84 Z-28 with a pile of upgrades including an 8 point roll cage and a built manually shifted TH350 behind a hopped up 305HO which has a surprising amount of balls... It's pretty likely it or something like it will end up coming home with me. So... what do I need to know?

This is the most amazing F-body of all F-bodies. That's what you need to know.

The lightest, the best handling, the most aerodynamic.

Perhaps the build quality could have been better, but you get to fix that in CAM.
