Do some searching on the interwebs for the Transformer Stratos kit car forum. You'll find some good info about the team of guys that built the Stratos the Stig drove. You'll also read about how top Gear staged most of the "problems" with the car, including Stig's spin etc.
Basically, they wrote the segment before they ever drove the car.

Wet track, mid-rear engine... you could make every car perform that poorly on the track if you were so motivated... I took the segment as pure parody.
Imagine the outcry if they had similarly crucified a 911... a car which would handle even worse in the same situation.
