This thread is full of good ideas. The white van we went to look at was a bust - it had a decent sized dent in the rear bumper, a few deep scratches, and some weird rust bubbles in the hood. Fortunately, there is a pretty good supply of these, so we will try again later this week.

Try Avis too but their game is a little different. Online, you find one you're interested in. Place a reservation and they will move the car to your closest location. Then you have 2 hrs to test it for free or 3 days to rent/test it. No charge for the rental if you buy it.

If you like the car you then interact with people in Austin TX about buying it (not the people at the rental counter.)

Or you could sort of pay respect to the AMC side of things.

It is amazing what can be done in MS Paint in 10 minutes.

Here's how I made my Windstar less boring 20 years ago.  It was a terrible van so I only kept it a few years.  The next owner loved the flames.  Ford eventually bought it back with all the others that had rear subframe rust issues.

I love the fake wood panel kit, although not for $600.

Honestly, what I like most about my van is how stealth it is.  I wouldn't add anything that would draw attention to it.

Telstar Logistics.

This was a prank where a blogger figured out he could get away with sneaking into a lot of places he shouldn't be if your car looks like an official delivery vehicle.

There is an instagram account dedicated to vehicles painted Forest Service Green.  That is all.

Other than that, movie themes are fun. I passed a random SUV w/a Jurrasic Park logo on it and oddly, it worked.

In reply to MadScientistMatt :

My personal version of an "official vehicle" is my retired DOT Truck w/ generic magnetic logo covering the impressions left where they took off their logo.  My options were to paint the door, and have the door not match the rest of the truck.  I decided that this truck will never not look "commercial" so I just embraced the commerical-ness. Total cost, $6 per side!  I think it now looks like a road engineer/survey company.

What is written above about the Jeep is all true.

I do keep a beat-up, old orange cone with me for times when parking is tight.

I like the post office truck that got subtly worked into the martini photos. That would mess with people

When I think of Hertz livery this is what comes to mind, I think it could look decent on the van too.

I dunno, I've been trying hard not to make a joke about it being a backwards french flag

A bit of foreshadowing, perhaps?

That simple compass logo is prolly the best job Ive seen done making over a commercial logo! Short of a paint job. Great inspiration, and I'll prolly borrow that thought from ya one day.

Thanks for the kind words.  More on the Gov't Mule in this thread.  The original intention was to tow with the truck to all points and one of those things was to be a small powerboat.  These are the things that lead me to the compass and the blue color.  I live near Lake Erie, I thought it would look nautical or marine industry.  In reality it looks more engineering/road work.  I love this darn truck.

Anyone willing to advertise on your van? This could lead to $$ for the project fund.

I'm thinking more along the lines of Rons;

Get someone else to help pay for the wrap you want in the future. Heck, if you've got an LLC, this turns into a write-off! Mo' money, mo' money, mo' MONEY!
