Slow-selling Mazda2 may not be renewed for U.S.
Needs more speed - bring on a turbo model! (MS2?)

On the flip side Mazda is supposed to be building a factory in Mexico to produce the 2 and a 2 based car for Toyota. I hope it doesn't go away. I love my 2.
I fear that most people don't get the Mazda 2. To appreciate it you must get a manual gearbox and then you must flog the hell out of it everywhere you go. The harder you push it, the more the 2 loves it. My old Nissan Micra was similar and I'd imagine an old Mini would be too.
When the 2 isn't even shown in Mazda advertisements you wonder why most people overlook it. Yes, price is partly to blame but if you don't let the public know about your product than how are you going to sell it.
I found out about the 2 through GRM & have yet to see a print ad or TV ad.
Now only if the Focus ST didn't have stupid taillamps & 5 doors............

Wait for the Fiesta ST? (Still 5 doors) http://www.autoblog.com/2012/11/26/ford-expanding-fiesta-line-with-high-po-st-frugal-1-0l-ecoboost/
What's the deal with four-doors (or five-doors) that don't have room to seat four six-foot adults?
The rest of the world has these and even smaller cars, but I just can't imagine wedging four people in for more than short hops. Is it just that everything is a short hop in most of the world, and it's basically us and Australia where you might begin and end your weekend with a three-hour drive?
Well E36 M3... I would really like a MS2 but I guess I will either have to build my own or wait for the next model/Fiesta ST.
Side note. Does anyone know if the ECU on these things has been cracked yet? I thought I saw something about it in the other thread but I am mostly interested for turbo purposes since I don't auto-x like Andy and Mazduece.

Yes, I think that it probably very true when considering Europe and Japan. Also, we are fatter then them too.

Yes, it's been done. Check on the Mazdas247 forum under the 2 section. It's the same guys that did Andy's tune. It sounds like all is possible. I would love the 1.0L turbo that the fiesta is getting. Or a diesel.

My family of five has done several multi hour road trips in mine. That isn't to say everyone is happy with each other at the end of the day.
I think that if you had kids under say 14, and you and your sig. other weren't over 6' (like me) then you would have no problem in a long haul. However, I would need to do a cruise upgrade since my sport is lacking and my foot is heavy.

Texas is bigger than every individual country in Europe, except Russia, which is the largest country in the world.
In the US very few people get really small cars and those that like them are probably much more likely to buy the niche cars like the Smart, Fiat 500 and MINI.
Another thing to consider was that the 2 was not a new design when it debuted in North America. It was sold as a Demios for a few years back elsewhere. Hopefully it won't be orphaned here.
Same issue as other small cars in the US. Not a lot of practical reason to buy one. You can get a much larger car for not much more money, and having a very small car in the US is of almost no advantage / use (and has some pretty clear disadvantages).
The only real reason to by a Fiat 500 (practically) is because you like the styling. You can get a full 4 seat car with a good trunk for similar money.
Our local dealer has five of them by has them behind the dealership and his lot is overflowing with 3's and Miatas. I asked the salesman why and he said why would anyone buy that?
I would but I have the rabbit for the same type of small car driving and the mz5 for new car driving. It seems that no matter how much there "should" be a Market for this type of car there just isn't.

Plus, Russia is in Asia, not Europe. ;-)

Except Russia is in both...
Don'tforget the "other asians" are just plain doing it better. The Accent/Rio twins have 6 gears, more power, more room and better economy along with more advertisement. Seriously... for someone wanting a daily driver (which this class is) there are better options with longer warranties that look better and drive nicer with the doodads that people want.

They prefer the term Eurasians...

(I really have no idea)
