I'm getting ready to do an oil change, and when I check my supply I have a little over 1 quart of royal purple 5W 30, 4 quarts of mobile one high mileage 10 W 30, I bought a quart of Rotella 5W 40, and five quarts of Mobile 5W 20.

The car in question takes 5 quarts of 10W-30, and I could just buy another quart of that and be done, but it made me think of this question. When do you just mix what you have when you need to put oil in an engine?

I mix when I have enough randoms to do the job in front of me.

If I'm doing a scheduled oil change I get the stuff beforehand, sometimes up to a month before.  If I'm road tripping and gotta add half a quart, well then I go to the milk crate in the bed of the truck and get one of the containers of fluids i have there.

I mix the race car, stepside, and anything that is getting a short change interval. I keep one of the five quart jugs and sharpie "mixed" on it, dumping in whatever is leftover.

I mix them all the time. Brands, weights, dino and synthetic. That usually goes in the older engines. I doubt the 460 in the RV or the 4L in the Jeep care as long as it's oil.

If it's brown and slick, fill it to the top mark on the stick.
