Don't know why they have a wet weather tire and set up for if they don't race in the rain. How can they get any rain racing experience if they don't race?

Rain yes, lightning is a big no.

And NASCAR has officially called the Xfinity race. 2 laps short of halfway. They are working to get the local standing water cleared and get the Cup series race started on time.

It's not practical but I was hoping they both got put off to tomorrow when I'm not doing anything

Looks like the rain let up a bit, and they are uncovering the cars.

I was just about to comment about there not being more carnage and then caution on lap 3.

Lol my wife is watching with me and is like they should fill the tires with water for every race as its so satisfying to see the water fly up, especially in slow motion!

It's like watching people drive during the first snow of the season.   There's a steep learning curve.

Stuck it out, well worth it. I've had pit road passes before, but being on the same level as the cars are at full speed, in anger is awesome. And the first third of the race they were all hanging the tail on the exit every time.

In car video of SVG, who knows how to horse a V8 Supercar around a street circuit. The front camera has glitched out but the rear view is pretty epic...and the NOISE.

So much better than Monaco. Can we put the F1 drivers in Cup cars next year?

Woot, been like 30 min behind and caught up right at end, congrats to SVG! So happy it ran clean and there was no BS wreck the guy in front to win. Also such great aesthetic view of Chicago, caught the city at golden hour.

That was my fear before the green starting the race or some other bs caution/black flag NASCAR is famous for when it ain't who they want to win.

Did you stand behind the water filled tire barriers on the outside of the curves where all of the cars slid off of the track? smiley

That was a great race to watch.  I have no idea what the playoff and its points are about, I don't get what they mean by "stages", and wtf is "overtime", but I loved it.  It was so cool watching those drivers setting up their passes and being able to really see the difference in how each driver would take a corner differently and the effect it had on their exit speed.  Watching SVG set up his two passes for the lead and then watching how he could maintain that and just walk the car behind was so great.

I got a big laugh out of one of the commentators saying that Wendy's should have a giant sponsorship banner on turn 6 next year after their car was in there what?  5?  6 times?

I'm not surprised, and totally shocked at the same time.  I said a few months ago that Jensen would have a bit of advantage based on street circuit and new track and so on.  Then Kiwi dude shows up, 3rd in quali, and E36 M3 got real.

At first I was disappointed we didn't get a spot near turn 6 (went to the Field Museum when the gates weren't open at 9), but now I'm glad.

I tuned in to some in-car footage on YouTube. I only did about 10 minutes.

I guess I'm the only person who thought this was pretty awful. I generally don't like street circuits, and this was no exception. A narrow pathway between concrete walls. Then add rain, cars with sketchy rwd traction and guys that generally don't drive under such conditions. A whole lot of nothing happening, as they tried to navigate the concrete jungle.

I've road raced in the rain, and actually enjoyed it, but on a proper track. I wouldn't have wanted to be where they were yesterday and got bored with watching it pretty quickly.

Usually guys from other series really struggle in NASCAR Cup races so major props to SVG on the win. He may have been uniquely positioned to pull something like this off this weekend. The current Cup cars are pretty similar to the V8 Supercars, nobody had run this track before, and he probably has a lot more experience racing on the type of track (street course) and the type of weather (wet to damp to dry-ish) than any of his competitors in this event. I'd love to see him come over and give the full Nascar schedule a shot in a future season.

If you follow racing down under at all, it's no surprise SVG took the win. He's a hell of a driver and far more used to this kind of race than the usual NASCAR driver. I'd love to see him take on Le Mans.
