Roy got my head almost done.

Roy refuses payment, just wants to drive it back to back with his son's stock srt4 to see if he can understand why we like them!

this "free" windage tray fabrication is a lot like work.

My dremel is officially dead, and im out of cutting wheels for it.

However, close to deburring and test fitting the windage tray portion! Once i know that works, ill get the pan baffles attached, then the trap doors.

Hopefully get the "new" block painted sunday. Its almost clean enough

Nice progress.

If you ever want to send me a sheet metal file like that, I can cut it out on the cnc plasma cutter.  Totally no big deal - just has to be less than 20" x 20".

Ill have to remember that!

I couldn't figure out how to use my handheld plasma without torching my template.....

Yeah, it'll catch a template on fire in no time.

You can trace the pattern onto the metal with sharpie.  That'll sort of give you a line to follow.  Putting the lines in with a scribe would work very well, though a bit time consuming.

In reply to TVR Scott :

With as much as I use sharpie,  that never occurred to me. Scribe did, but i couldn't see it well enough to follow on my test piece.

MDb13, so this bullet #4 .....hey I guess I don't feel all that bad...... I'm on differential #4 in the "V".  This motor is known for this 'weak point' and the tray is your savior ?

In reply to 759NRNG :

There's a bit of oil issues in these engines that i didn't really understand before now.

First is that theres no baffles in the pan. At all. So they tend to starve for oil in right hand sweepers. The windage ttay/baffle setup is my solution there

Second is that the oil pump will suck the pan dry at high rpm, dumping it all in the head as high pressure and starving the bottom end.  An oil restrictor in one of the cam towers solves this.

Third is that the oil doesn't drain back to the pan quickly enough. Many guys add external oil drains and such. I did tbe return port porting.

Also, these engines just seem to be fragile, and previous owners beat them like they owed them money.

So what you're saying is that they're Mopars?

759: where'd your comment go?

Also, it was really warm hwre today. The engine dried quickly, so i painted it.

Only had flat black, but i think its fine with as hidden as it is, and it may actually be easier to see leaks because they will be shiny.

windage tray and baffles are ready for a test fit.

Also, hand formed louvers with a ball peen and masonry chisel takes forever.

Are you hand dressing the 'cut' edges with a finish file? Who is the author of this design?

In reply to 759NRNG :

Yes sir. Actually using a very small file with a very fine cut. There's a lot of edges to dress and everytime I think I'm done I find a few more.

Our very own bgkast designed this for the midlana and sent me the blueprints.  I owe him one!

I'd Loctite the E36 M3 out of that hardware. I'd hate to see it come undone and clog the pickup.

I remember in the ad when I was a kid that said that the first sign of maturity is realizing the volume knob also turns to the left. I ain't mature yet.

I put it all together with pop rivets for just that reason

For deburring of metal and plastic edges, you can't go wrong with a set like this.

https://www.shars.com/noga-eo2100-4-pcs-high-speed-steel-hand-deburring-tool-set

Won't even break the bank at $15.

Takes way less time and leaves a smoother edge than a tiny file.
