Edmund's Inside Line Straightline caught some horrific spy photos of a new Porsche that they thought was the new 911. Except the testers were jerks and wouldn't let them take pics of the car. And it sounded like a V8. And the rear overhang is super short. And the nose is huge. A commenter started speculating that this could be the Panamera-based 928 successor. I think that sounds a lot more logical than acting like a fool to cover up yet another identical looking 911.

It would make sense. Essentially, if you just clip two doors off the Panamera, you have a perfect starting point for a GT type car.

Maybe with Porsche already building SUVs and sedans, the public is already used to "non-traditional" Porsches and will more readily accept a 928 this time around.

German magazines are saying that the next 911 will have special edition (they are dubbing it the 961) with a V8.

The rear exhaust looks a bit too cramped to be front engine.

Could be the 961, but the rear exhausts aren't "cramped". It's the new manufacturing BS to put the muffler at the very end of the pipe, no matter what (see 05+ Mustang), which is stupid.

I don't know what this car is. That 961 is a possibility, or else just a 911 (then why are they acting idiotic?), or it's the 928. Porsche has already said the 911 is no longer their best seller and so it doesn't need to be the halo car either (finally!).

If those douchtards didn't want photos taken of this car why in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks did they park it in a McDonalds parking lot?

Those guys sure are acting the part of a couple of frat boys at a Burger King. I wonder if their dad owns a dealership.

So, you think that some 911 variant won't be their halo car? I bet you a child's toothbrushing timer that it will be. It even has the dentist's address on it.

In reply to rotard:

That's what Porsche is saying, and I will absolutely take your bet as the 918 is the new Halo car, and there ain't any 911 in that mid-engine hybrid beastie.

If it's not a 911, how can you even consider it a real Porsche? They stopped making real ones in 1998.

crept in? Porsche has always been numerical.

As far as I know, the Boxster was the first non-numerical Porsche.

911, 930, 914, 924, 928, 964, 993, 944, 931, 951, 996, 997, and technically Boxster/Cayman have an internal code of 986 and 987.

yes.. that may be true that the Boxster is the 986.. but they kinda lost the plot when they kept the 911 as the 911.... even though it is what.. the 997 now?

901 begat 911. The problem is enthusiasts using internal chassis coding. Kind of like e30 = an eighties BMW 3-series, or P71 = cop Crown Vic. Everyone else just calls it a Crown Vic. Or if I ran around calling my Interceptor an RC46, even though Honda applied that to two slightly different motorcycles.

The 911 has not had a 911 badge since the early eighties. There was "Carrera", then the base 964 and 993 only had "C2" badges.

The current "911" is the 997. Porsche only uses 911 because people still call it that.

In reply to Javelin: "the new 911."

Call it whatever you want but it's not a true 911. Real 911's have air cooled engines. :-)

Seriously, I've had absolutely zero personal interest in the water cooled "911's". But I'm sure its still a great car.

I don't give a hoot what it's called, that's what the photo shooter said. They're all ugly to me.

Not even. Just a supra conversion Porsche. Look at the canter rail, roof line, and the c pillar. Its a supra. Plus it would of have a black & white camaflage decals all over. There's no Porsche design studio in the US and the testing facilities are located at stuggart. Fake!

Ah, dude, that is not a Supra. The rear 1/4 windows and back glass look absolutely nothing alike.
