We will shortly be replacing the '05 MPV; at pushing 300,000 km, It's Time. The likely replacement is a 2011-up Grand Caravan. If we end up with one that does NOT have the HD front brakes, is it true they are a bolt-in upgrade (assuming 17-inch wheels)? If it isn't just rotors & calipers, what else do I have to budget for?

TIA

I will say if you get one with blind spot monitoring make sure it works. The sensors in the rear bumper are problem prone and cost something silly, like $800 per side IIRC.

Edit: 2011 has no performance brake option per Mitchell crash book.

Caliper/bracket/pads/rotors are the difference on 2012+.

Also the knuckles are different from 2011-2012. Hub bearings also different.

If you want the performance brakes you need a 2012... And might as well just buy one with them stock.

Calipers MSRP for $120ea, rotors $115ea, pads $176, and brackets $67ea. Also brake backing plates needed at $6ea.

The BR3 option is performance brakes. The BRE is standard. Note that 2011 and 2012 BRE parts are all identical EXCEPT knuckles and hub bearings. Probably similar to a Jeep hub change on TJs a while back where offset was changed of the hub vs knuckle. Won't know for sure until you spend some money most likely.

Bolt them on for a 12. Same part numbers between the 11 and 12 "small" brakes. The hubs prolly have a different tone ring/wheel for the difference or maybe an axle spline change.
