I have been searching off and on for awhile for 7x6 headlights that I can do a retrofit on for my Ram50.  I'm specifically looking for a set that have PC (polycarbonate) lens or really any plastic lens at all.  I do not want to deal with glass lenses at all.  The glass is fragile, heavy and the grades of glass used on these style headlights does not have great optical properties.

Where can I find 7x6 crystal headlights to do a retrofit on?  There's a lot of LED options out there that have questionable output or designs I don't like. I just want a clean slate to do my own retrofit on.  I'm hoping the hive here has an answer or a work around.

Wow. I was going to call you crazy. You used to be able to find "cystal" or "euro" non diffused plastic lens h4 conversion lights all over the internet for less than $30. Everything I see now either has built in stupid halo LEDs or is just a sheet of LEDs with no bowl to mount a projector. Yikes.

I can't tell if these are plastic but at $25 I can't imagine they would be?

The old 7065? Lamps were available in plastic but are surely discontinued now. Maybe find some old stock on eBay?

There was a couple part numbers I had tracked down from the retrofit forums but they seem to have turned to glass or become NLA from last time I looked.  I have been asking every seller on eBay I can find what the lens is made from. One seller claimed to be selling plastic lens headlights. I received them yesterday and they are most certainly glass which is what led me back here.

Everything I'm finding on that part number is a round sealed beam. I'm looking for a 7x6 or 5x7.

Or these?

Quite a bit more spendy, tho they do look like complete plastic assemblies.

I know it isn't really what you're asking for, but Holley just came out with the RetroBright line of LED lights that looks a lot like the original sealed beams.

They have a 5x7: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/Sealed-Beam-Holley-RetroBright-LED-Headlights-5x7_6?quantity=1

Both of those are glass lenses. I don't care what the housing is made out of but trying to find a set that have plastic lenses.  Cheap polycarbonate has a lot less light distortion than cheap glass and PC doesn't shatter.

Well, dang, now there's another car part I didn't know I needed that I'm now lusting after.

There used to be cheap Pilot branded clear polycarbonate lense housings available, but I'm not seeing them as available on Amazon

https://us.amazon.com/Pilot-Performance-Lighting-WI-HL5A-Conversion/dp/B0006309WA

I have a set of Pilot housings retro'd with H1 projectors that have been in a couple different trucks for the last 6 years with good success.  Both trucks they've been on have lived outside and the lenses don't seem to be weathering

I do know people have had success with the Nokyas

Those Pilot housings were on my list before I might have to see if anyone still has them on the shelf.

Sharing this with the braintrust here.  Per this thread on the tacoma forums. United Pacific 31377 is a plastic lens 5x7 sealed beam. I'm pulling the trigger on a pair and will see if they actually are plastic lenses.

Anything from Diode Dynamics? Retro fit a sealed LED DOT housing into the factory housing?

They have DOT approved driving pods and bars in the universal section.

I can't find anything that says what they are made of. This is tough. I do know I have bad luck with lenses. I ordered a set of BMW fog lights from ebay advertised as plastic, every photo looked plastic and they were cheap (was fixing after hitting a deer) so I ordered and they arrived with aluminum housings and glass lenses, so sometimes sellers also suck at descriptions.

Crystal lenses have worse optics, though. The scourge of lighting that does s-all for illuminating but is great at blinding oncoming traffic is due in large part to opticless plastic lenses.

This is probably why you cannot find them. Sealed beams have to meet a certain standard, "aero" lights just get a pinky-swear from the manufacturer.

I'll be installing my own optics by retrofitting a projector into them.

Which is why you used to be able to find the plastic "crystal" lens in all the cheap ebay h4 conversions. I guess not anymore? But speaking pessimistically, which is worse? Crystal lens and relying on the optics of the bowl or randomly designed fluting on the lens?

United Pacific 31377 do indeed have plastic lenses, plastic housings too.  They look like pretty decent pieces for $35 a piece, hopefully they open up easily.
