I don't have the right socket, but not sure what to look for. It's a rod bolt on a Honda Fit, so very small (8mm?).  Is it just a 12 point socket or is there a special name for it?

That's a 12 point socket if a Honda.

Doubt its an etorx.

I bought an etorx set (it was dark when I first looked at it) and they didn't work. Got a light on it and figured out it was 12 points. I think what I need is a 12 point splined socket set.

The other type to keep an eye out for is: Triple Square. Those are more typically found on German stuff.

Thanks all.  It was a splined head (I wasn't sure what to ask for at first) and I was able to snag a small socket set from the green themed auto parts store and get the rod cap off.  The bearing is beat to hell, but the rod cap and crank journal are still nice and smooth, so I'm hoping I can get it replaced without pulling the head and get the car back on the road.

yes

Check whether the bolt is reusable or not. Some are torque to yield and a one time use only.
