say hello to the black widow s10, this is before it blew up and caught fire

and during the fire

they used pre-runner fiberglass bed sides and fenders to bring down some weight and give it some flare to fit the tires

$$$$$$$. 4.8's are worth about 30 cents, a piece of used bubble gum and a "just get it the hell out of here!"

In reply to Bobzilla:

Fair enough. A 4.8 would be a good starting point. Just remember to add a spare tire and a fuel cell as ballast in the rear.

The short stroke of the 4.8 (shares the same bore as teh 5.3) revs easier and moves the torque up the power curve. Should be easier on a T-5. ..... should.

Oh yeah, I remember the short build write up by No Limit on the Black widow.... they had to make custom blade sway bars to fit with the LS installed... also relocated the lower ball joints and re welded the attachment points for the drag link to stop bump steer. Short build thread by No Limit trucks

That last photo sure looks like leaf springs to me.

That's not bad. That's about what i'm going to spend on the Cherokee to go slow over bumps.

CAM class in SCCA SOLO, Chebby S10/GMC Sonoma.

CAM class is pretty easy to describe: If you look at a car and it makes you involuntarily shout "MURICAAA!!!!!!" it probably belongs in CAM class.

4.8s also are suppose to take boost really well.

Think I figured out what this thread is about. @ the original poster. Had you put s10 in the title I would have looked at this thread a couple days ago. Been skipping over it because I figured it was something I knew nothing about.

I've been infatuated with this idea myself for a while. There is an S10 that has been passed around my group of friends since we first turned 16 that one of my friend's parents are currently in possession of. I keep tabs on it, waiting for the 4.3 to fall terminally ill so I can scoop it up for cheap.

I think I would do boom tube exhaust out the side and some Crager D-Windows (weight be damned) for maximum NASCAR effect.

Wonder if it would be CAM legal?

Yeah, our region pretty much started the whole CAM class thing and have a pretty large turnout at local events (10-15 cars average).

Got to stop this. Found the engine mounts, headers, oilpan for ~$600. Control arms for the front, springs, shocks, and a 3-link for another $1200. Just need a 4.3 manual truck with a trashed motor.....

What is your reasoning for this? Less weight? That's really the only thing I can think of.

I've been told the 4.8 will also turn something like 8000 rpm reliably with nothing but a set of rod bolts. I'm not sure if the stock heads flow well enough for it to make power that high with just a cam and an intake, but that short stroke does let it rev.
