Decided I was going to get one with the manual but after reading up on the Power Shift and my dealer letting me drive one for an hour unsupervised, I commited heresy and bought one. After 18 months and 25K miles I am very happy with it. When in the low position it can be a lot of fun. For those that may not know, it is a dual clutch 6 spd. Now I will get flamed.

What I find interesting about the iQ is how the passanger dashboard is "shorter" than the driver. This "shortness" allows for the passanger to sit farther forward giving rear legroom for a passanger behind the passanger.
It is sort of a 3 person car with the driver on one side and two people on the other side.

A co-worker bought two, and pissed off a co-op board at the same time. His building charges $320/month for a second space. His "free" space will hold his and hers iqs with no problem.

I think a new Mini costs a used Corolla more than a new IQ.

I don't think I even want to know what happens when you get t-boned or rear ended in one of these...YIKES! I haven't driven one, not really interested or in the market for one of these, but Alan Cesar's review was one of the funniest things ever! For those that missed it...

"The iQ is a horrible pile of failure. There’s no cruise control available at all. It makes tons of noise at highway speeds. Its interior is an abysmal sea of plastic, with more ugly plastic embellishments glued on top of already ugly plastic.

You’d expect a tiny car called iQ to have at least clever storage solutions to make the most of its tiny dimensions, but you’d be horribly, horribly wrong. There’s no glovebox as we would normall know it; the optional glovebox is actually a sad little tray under the passenger seat. The trunk isn’t deep enough to fit a gallon of milk without folding the rear seats down; even a package of pitas is a tight fit.

Folding the seats down requires that you remove the rear seat headrests. But where do they go? Again, something that deserves a clever solution—like what the Yaris has—but is not actually implemented in the car that needs it.

For all this misery you’d expect blazing fuel economy or a staggering four-digit price. You’d be disappointed. Fuel economy is 36 city (not bad), 37 highway (huh?). For about $2000 less you can buy a Yaris, which will fit five people in much more comfort and return better highway fuel economy. Fitting four people in iQ is a desperate-situation option only; limbs will crisscross, belongings will mash together. Dropping off a couple kids at school? Good luck fitting them and their backpacks.

This car would make sense with the Yaris drivetrain and its five-speed stickshift; those 100 or so horsepower would make the iQ into a real hoot to drive. But it has an anemic 1.3-liter engine and sad little CVT. It’s just too slow and too small for its own good, and doesn’t really make sense in any American environment.

Everything about this car sucks hard. And for its high sticker price, you don’t even get a full tank of gas. For a full 6 gallons of fuel when you leave the dealer lot, you need to check an option box. Seriously.

Toyota already has a small car in its stable that does a lot of things just fine. Unless you’re after parking prowess or high city MPG numbers, the Yaris is a better answer to every automotive question."

Agree, I neither like nor hate it in terms of looks. And I'm sure because it's a Toyota, the driving dynamics are stable and comfotable, it gets good mileage, and it's reliable. I just don't really see the point in it. In most big cities that have street parking, the spots tend to be the size of regular cars (since there is constant "spot turnover"), and I have to street park in Washington DC (arguably the worst parking environment in this country) frequently. Never have a problem getting a spot in the WRX. Yeah, the iQ could get into the spot with one less turn maybe, but that's not a concern of mine. It's not legal in most US cities to park nose-in with a micro as it is in many Euro and carribbean countries - which is the main reason that a lot of people in THOSE places buy micro cars.

IDK, I'm sure its a fine car. I just don't really see the point. Living in the city, or in the burbs, or in the country. The only thing the car does "better" than other cars is park in small spaces IMO. I'm sure it's fine to drive, but I also have to question the safety. I saw a Smart Fortwo get punted across an intersection last month by a freakin civic. The civic had a bashed in hood. The Smart had a bashed in front, back, left side, right side, roof, and probably floor as well. I've never seen a car do two rolls from a ~45mph side hit. Passengers lived they weren't "ok." I'd imagine the iQ would have similar results.

Compelling reason, if you can afford $35k worth of new cars, to just go get a house with a driveway.....

OR if you're paying for the extra space currently, your parking space savings cover all or most of the payment on the iQ.

OR if you need to live in the city, where there is no free parking, then you could ride public transit or carpool, have only one car (or no car), and put all that money in the bank or do something else useful with it.

OR you could buy 2 motorcycles for half the price of two iQs and never worry about parking again.

btw, in the condos and such that have pay spaces, you actually buy them (my buddy had to buy a second spot for his work vehicle, and it ran him $35k to buy it 7 years ago). His spot would now be easily sold for over $60k. Buying parking spaces in a crowded city/condo isn't just for parking cars, it's a real estate investment that never loses value.

Just like all new models, give it some time for customer feedback and for them to make improvements. I remember when the xB was new, people liked it but complained it was gutless, so when gen 2 came out, it had more power. Then people pissed and moaned wanting more mileage.

I don't have a huge problem with CVT, but my only experience is my mom's Sentra, and it doesn't have cruise. I hate it.

I'll let em get all used and cheap, then I might think about it.
