The ones that plug into the cigarette lighter are REALLY pushing the current limitations of that circuit, as well. You're better of hardwiring them.
Just did mine too, completely replacing and re-shaping the foam as well. I got the dorman wire style.

Tl;dl: I'm quite fond of them and I'm going to install my third set soon. A bit more than budget no names, maybe, but they will answer your emails and the switches seem to hold up fine.
