Who's attending?

1. My bro who works for a big name gear company.  They have a booth.

2. Coworker who has a diesel engine company buddy who's going to party and see some of the show.

3. Midwest customer who is going to Vegas for the weekend bachelor party starting tomorrow (Have you heard of SEMA, I asked?)

4. Not I, said I.

Fingers crossed Simpson shows a "sport" version of the Hybrid S! I'd like to keep my head connected to my spine but $1800 CAD ($1200 USD) is a lot to spend these days (I mean, not if you ever need it).

If you're in their booth please push them to make this, there are a lot of HPDE/TT/Instructors that could really use it but are priced out for the current full blown carbon version. I've got a HANS for my car with harnesses but I know the Hybrid provides a bit more support in certain situations as well as the ability to use it in any of my students cars.

Seen some videos of the Toyota AWD GR 86 turbo that's apparently there.  Cool concept.

I'm not there; instead I'm keeping things running at work while co-workers are there. They did send me photos of the Toyota AWD turbo 3-cylinder GR86, which looks really awesome!

I hope it is a good show for all who are attending. 😁

Not going this year. It's tough to make a business case for it unless we're searching for specific suppliers. Otherwise it's just crowds and face to face meetings that could have been an email. We have the emissions thing pretty well in hand with a car in the test cell right now, so no need to attend those meetings.

I actually just got home after towing an ex-SEMA show car from CA to CO. We thought about swinging by.

We're in Central Hall. Look for the blue and white Supertech sign hanging from the ceiling - our booth is across from theirs.

I'm not sure the tires matter all that much with no wiring or plumbing on the engine.

Like the fake Lambo Miata. Why does SEMA even allow cars that don't even run?

That seems INCREDIBLY lame.

I only recently realized that Delorean's are rear engine and not mid.  Strange.

The thing about the show is that there are the exhibition halls with vendor booths and then there are the outdoor parking lots. I don't think there's ANY limitation as to who can put a car in the outdoor lots. They're jammed with hundreds of cars. Any time you see a "SEMA car", take note if it's outside or inside. The "Lambo" Miata? Outside, although close to the building.

The vendor booths inside aren't regulated, but the vendors have to pay for those spots and they don't have a lot of room. So they tend to be a little pickier as to what they put in the booth. Also, the more established the vendor, the closer they move to the center of the main hall. It's like gravitational attraction :) So having a car in the Koni booth (very close to the middle of everything) is very different from grabbing a parking space outside. The really good builds are done by the big exhibitors like Toyota.

The cars are almost all just booth babes, trying to get your attention. They may or may not have anything to do with the vendor whose booth they are in. SEMA doesn't care if your booth babes are OE or equipped with aftermarket parts, it's just a trade show. Do what you need to do in order to get the attention of the attendees.

Highlighted for emphasis.  Well played, sir.

BTW, the non-running car thing is what begat the Optima Ultimate Street Car series.  They were tired of seeing all these non-op cars in booths, so they held a competition after the show for folks to "prove it".  Grew and grew...got tv coverage...and became a whole series.
