the car is a 1987 n/a 944, nearly stock, just late 951 swaybars and Koni yellows (single adjustable).
What i'd really like to do is put a set of springs and torsion bars in that roughly match the Konis set to Soft. this is partially because the rear shocks are practically not adjustable without removing them and also because it's been my DD and i like the ride better set soft. it'll never be my M3 around the cones so that is not my goal.
that said, though it's better than when i got the car, it still rolls an awful lot on the autocross course to the point where i'm finding the body roll harder than i'd like to manage and the rear particularly fond of pendulum activities. the latter i'm hoping to help to rotate the car autoxing once the roll is improved upon, but not so much that it's really twitchy on the road. i'm actually finding the car easier to aggressively autocross in the wet because it slides earlier rather than rolling.
now i've seen the 200# and 250# lowering springs out there, i have zero experience with either of them. but i really dont know quite where these cars like to be with selecting a torsion bar to compliment the front spring.
so any GRM hive suggestions on a DD/autox/fun weekend spring/t-bar combo?
Weltmister bars Iboc springs
These with koni yellows are fantastic.. ohya get a set of welttmister sway bars as well.
Set it and forget it suspension for the 944
Do you mean Eibach? Ive only come across the couple weltmeister coil spring options and an h&r set.
My question about torsion bars was more about sizing and how they work with the konis on soft, since there are a lot of bar diameter options.
Don't overpay for Weltmeister bars. Get some thick beetle bars from CIP1 for about half the price.
I'd get the H&R spring set, as they've always done right by me. I've put them on 3 different cars, and loved them.
My 88 951S is running 400lb front springs and stock Koni's with stock 88 951S torsion bars in the rear. Rides pretty well when set on soft. I'm at a Microsoft meeting today after driving from Portland to Bellevue in said 951 and other than dealing with traffic and the drone of the 4" exhaust it was perfectly comfy at 70-80mph for the 3.5 hour trip. Its also a portly thing, so the extra weight of the options helps a lot.
What I'm saying is that I'd look at going to higher rates. The cars can make use of it and won't beat you up over it.
I run the CIP1.com 28mm torsions on the my 924 and the ride in the rear is great even with KYB's. The front is another matter, but my 924 is very light in the front so that complicates things and it will be dropped from 325 to 250. Wanna buy a set of 325lb x 8" 2.5" springs? Barely used. I also have a set of Weltmeister lowering springs (I think they are 250lb, but I need to double check) that I'm not using if you're interested.
BTW here are some good links to look at when thinking about spring rates for these cars:
