A friend has, I believe, spun a rod bearing in his 98 Outback. It is a 2.2 liter automatic. Are there any good sources for rebuilt or used engines for this car, or what would be a ball park overhaul cost for this engine. Thanks in advance.

I've never used them personally, but CCR Engines (http://www.ccrengines.com/) specializes in Subaru engines and are highly respected in Subaru circles. Personally, being a 2.2, I'd just get one out of a boneyard, but CCR is probably your best source for rebuilt.

2.2 is a used engine replacement. Shop www.car-part.com and get one. Sounds like he managed to do the impossible: kill a 2.2.

If you're in New England, F&S auto parts in Connecticut specializes in Subarus, they're a customer of mine.
