I picked up a second Sunbeam Tiger this summer and have decided that I definitely have too many projects now. I figured the fairest way to dispose of it is to put it in an auction with our friends at Bring A Trailer. It is now at only $3000 and is no reserve, so someone might get a heck of a deal. I am cool with that, if it helps a reader get this really cool car.

This would be a great choice for a open top fun car.... Looks like it has some body rot, but chassis is still solid. How much actual rust is in this? Do you know?

Reading the comments, the Tiger crowd is a bit odd.

The rust is surprisingly minimal, except for that ugly, but simple to fix, outer rocker.

Rust appears mostly like Saturday afternoons repair stuff if you ain't in no real hurry. Good bones for a 51 year old car. Good retirement project.

And as this thing is only at $6300, it looks like someone is going to steal it. In today’s market, it is worth at least three times that much.

I've been watching a lot of BaT auctions lately and it wouldn't surprise me if there is a flurry of bidding near the end.

If we're playing Price is Right, I'll predict $15k.

Auction Snipers

IIRC BaT has specific measures in place to at least discourage sniping.

Yes, sniping doesn't work on BaT. If a bid comes in with under 3 min left, it automatically resets the 3 min countdown.

We'll see how it ends up.

BaT isn't anti-sniping, it's pro-$$$$. Why quit bidding when there's bidding? I sold a car on there and the auction kept going for a half-hour past close and the bidding increased $8000. Unfortunately, there is no proxy bidding, so no reason to bid early...and people are used to that, so it's funny to see a car go to $20000 right after being listed and just stagnate there.

I think the Tiger will go for $14-16k, but it may surprise you. You only need two guys that have been picturing that car in their garage for the last week.
