Viper fo sho, but thats rapidly coming to a close.

FD or JDM Supra would be nice, R33 Skyline (but their value will tank when the R34s start hitting the 25 year rule)

For JDM I'd go first gen NSX.  Not the best time to buy as they're pretty high, but slowly leveling off.

I always drooled over them in High School and obviously couldn't afford one, but I thought I could get a used one 10 years later.  It's now 30 years later and they just keep getting more expensive.

What about an E39 M5? Values have been going ballistic over the past few years and aren't falling any time soon. Good specs and nice ones are rare, they're an incredibly important car in BMW's portfolio and in the sports sedan landscape, buyers are typically older, stable, moneyed types or young professionals in secure, high-paying jobs (lots of pilot crossover).

E39 M5 doesn't appeal for the usual reasons (aka I'm not a big fan of BMW's four wheeled contraptions).

I have considered an FD - I've owned a mildly modified one in the past and wouldn't mind another one. Main issue with an FD is that I'm essentially the local rotary specialist...

Right now I've got my eye on a higher mileage 911 Carrera 3.2 and a 356C. Unfortunately both are a little further away that I'd like and I think I'd have to look at both in person before making a decision.

Not looking too good for NSXs, the ones I think would be worth having as they have higher miles and I don't have to be afraid to actually drive them. Those seem to be in short supply right now...

I'm still keeping an eye out, but am probably going to wait until the engine replacement on the BRZ is done and then see if I trust this car enough to keep it, or if I sell it. If I sell it I'll have a bit more money to add to the kitty.

Yeah, I just looked up some NSXs on FBM.  One with 140k asking $55k, and one with 27k asking $99,500

I know, right?  I had the scene from Firefly in my head where Jayne says "I'll be in my bunk."

A clean low mileage bugeye WRX.  In 5-10 years they will be expensive.  Most are rusted, wrecked or ruined by dubious mods.  If your budget is big, buy three or more.  These are the next US spec Japanese gold mine.

Well, I'm about to scribble my signature on a sales contract and send someone a bunch of money.

Thanks for everybody's advice, of course it looks like in the end I did end up with one of the vehicles that I kinda discounted towards the beginning of the thread.

Oh well, as they say, nothing's more expensive than a cheap .....

Nope, not boat .

I don't think so? There is a clue in the number of dots after "cheap", and we're two dots short of Porsche .

Edit: I didn't realize that your 911 might have been for sale, if that is what you may have been implying?

The main issue with FDs (other than being a bit of a tight fit for me - I owned one in the past) is that I see my local rotary specialist in the mirror when shaving every morning.

It's not officially for sale, but I haven't been using it, I'm having shoulder surgery that will prevent me from shifting it for a few months, and I'm planning to move in the next few years and I don't think it's coming with me.

But in the mean time, I think the market on these things is still trending upward, so I'm not in a rush.

I'm a bit superstitious about deals that haven't closed to the extent that the car is on my driveway, but given that contracts have been signed and money is about to exchange hands, I'm hoping it's safe to post.

And yes, I'm purchasing it from a GRM/Classic Motorsports advertiser.

https://www.wirewheel.com/inventory/available/2005-lotus-elise-graphite-grey-for-sale/

What attracted me to it is that there are enough miles on it that I don't have to worry about driving it, but it's in better condition than a lot of the other Elises I found for similar money.

That's a gentleman's Lotus right there. Elises can look good in crazy color combos, but that one is much more sophisticated than I expect an Elise/Exige to look.

I kick myself for not getting one when they were in the mid to high 20's.  Great looking car.
