I like this site and have come here for years, but there has always been an undercurrent of condescension for any kind of circle track racing, with NASCAR being the most visible target.

The truth is that NASCAR is the only type of racing that caters primarily to the fan experience, rather than the driver experience. They realized early on that if you make a compact, highly watchable track that spectators can follow easily, and keep cars close together by doing whatever it takes to remove the car from the equation and emphasize driver ability, the fans and money will come. It should be worrying to any race fan that NASCAR is hurting a bit these days, as if they cannot get asses in the seats there is no hope for other less accessible forms of racing.

I wonder how a bash autocross thread would go over here?

I treat circle track the same way I treat drag racing. Think it's easy? Try it. There are drivers that will mop the floor with you. There is technology and strategy in all forms of racing.

I think there is a road course race soon, saw it on the tv when I was out to eat

I’ve always enjoyed those

I started trying to watch f1 and have formed roughly the same set of opinions on it as the collective gripes on NASCAR. Funny how boring racing can be in the highest or lowest tech forms (why watch the race when the highlight reel is all the parts that matter....). The only racing that I've found keeps my attention so far is rallyX. Though I'm more into driving than watching driving, so....

I'm not to saying that either of them don't take an enormous amount of skill, but it takes an interest in the whole to make it enjoyable for an individual to watch.

Yes that was some good racing between the brothers. A little rubbing and bumping but not enough to wreck each other

I would bash the ever loving E36 M3 out of autocross. It is, by definition NOT racing, since the cars aren't wheel to wheel, but instead a time trial event for uptight rules lawyers with big hats standing around baking in the sun for 90 seconds total seat time, then whining when a 30 year old Civic on R-Comp tires has a higher RAW and PAX time than their $45k modern car, because physics will always win.

I don't disagree with the NASCAR sentiment, but while you've been here a long time you may have missed a few threads as there is plenty of autocross bashing here.

Easy to lose sight of the forest for the trees. I don't love autoX, but the number of broke kids/adults whoever having fun with their cars is enough to make autoX awesome in my book. Though I suppose that's not here nor there.

Everyone loves to bag on Nascar drivers.  I personally don’t like it anymore for other reasons but thos guys are awesome drivers.  JPM had it made in F1 and in Nascar he was midpack most of the time.

I used to hear how awful Nascar drivers are all the time in the Northwest.  Then some dude named Michael Waltrip made it to Pacific Raceways and decided to do a legends race.  Watching a super speedway specialist destroy everyone on a roadcourse, very entertaining.  He anihilated the wanna bes.

You guys ever watch the old show pros vs joes?  It’d get the same results in racing.

There is a reason we are all watching on TV.

If it was about WATCHING AutoX, I don’t think you would get a lot of arguments.

NASCAR and circle track do have it the best for spectators.  I am not even sure why you would sit in the stands for most road and city course races of any kind other then for the atmosphere.

I think auto racing is great, it’s just not that interesting to watch in most forms unless you really get into and understand the strategy.

NASCAR wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t ran by people that market it like Vince McMahon. I don’t want artificial drama. I don’t want spec racing, I don’t want 700 laps around a circle. Get rid of the rules, get rid of “Jean Gerard” drivers. Get rid of the tube frame. Bring it back home to grassroots moonshine runnin’ good old boys with out million dollar funding, and I promise you, I’ll be front row.

If I'm not "in" the racing then it has to be entertaining to watch. NA$CAR simply isn't fun to watch for more than 15 minutes. It used to be, back in the days of Petty and Pearson. I feel the same about F1. Oh, and thanks Tony George for ruining CART while we're at it.

I watch about zero racing on TV anymore.

As for autocross, etc I refer you to The Pyramid Of Speed.  https://www.nsxfiles.com/Pyramid_of_speed.htm
