I am prepping my 65ish Corvair for the national convention in july and continually come to a crossroads with tire choice, not only brand by diameter.

The car currently wears 16x8's all around with 225's front and 245's rear. The motor is a 140/4 so not a ton of power, but not bad for a 2400# car. Wheels are probably a little heavy, but look good.

I also have a set of Monocoque 2 piece 13x8 wheels which weigh 8Lb. each.. yes 8.. just to be sure I just weighed them again.

My thought is that with shorter, lighter wheels I will lower the gear ratio and give me more acceleration, plus the obvious un-sprung weight advantage.

but 13" tires are becoming a thing of the past. I really don't want to pony up for Hoosiers, but R888's or some other 13's are do-able.

You wont find much if anything in a 13" tire wide enough for a 8" wheel, R comps and slicks excluded.

Now, if you want to have a lot of fun, get some stock 13" steelies for it and run cheap stockish (~185 mm) width rubber.
