I have a feeling it has to do with the banner ads over there than pride.

With the current tweaks the board is much easier to read. Actually, when I opened the forum tonight I actually said that to myself. I wouldn't mind more smilies though...

Oh I don't mind banner ads. It sure does seem wierd that the banner ads are the same size as the GRM logo at the top of the page. Seems to me the logo should be the top dog.

In the grand tradition of the quasimofo style, we now have a wowak style, so everything takes up every inch of the screen, and nothing falls on two lines.

To use it, in Firefox go to view/page styles/wowak

Note: Wowak style not warranted against breakage or warpage, additional terms and conditions may apply.

AWESOME!

Any way to make a page style "stick" while browsing? I can make any individual page view under a given style, but when I browse, it goes back to the default.

Beats me. Neither one of those is remotely usable for regular browsing, though. Just jokes.

I know it's a joke, but I really like it.

Ha!

Okay, nerd time. Wowak, pay attention.

First, find the profile directory for your Firefox. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile

Now, go into the "chrome" folder. You'll find a file called "userContent-example.css". Open it in Notepad.

Add the following to the bottom of the userContent-example.css file:

@-moz-document url-prefix(http://www.grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum), url-prefix(http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum) { #logo, #nav, .cta, #footer {display:none} #wrap, #content, #content1, #forum table {width:100% !important; background:#fff; margin:0 !important; position:static} #content {margin:0} #content * {white-space: nowrap} .postlist, .post {width:auto !important; overflow:visible !important} }

Save the file as userContent.css.

Restart Firefox.

Voila! It stick! It's set up to only mess with the forum, and the sidebar will remain for other pages. It also places the page a bit high, cutting off the top. I'll see what I can do about that.

Of course if you do this, you're on your own, and anything that does or does not work is your problem.

Yes, you have now voided the warranty on the forum

I'm sure Keith won't mind doing tech support on his version...

While I love the full width view Keith figured out, useability fell to a 1, so I'm back to normal.

Hey, I didn't create that. It's simply the code from the Wowak CSS. Blame Wowak. He broke it.

I tried to blame Canada, but it turns out Keith is from there, and that gives them immunity somehow.

Without the

* Latest Topics * New Topics * Watched * Your Posts * Top Rated * Archive

at the top of the page, its very hard to navigate the forums.

And I really didn't want to eliminate the side bar, just make it a reasonable size. (like 150px wide.)

Hey, I think "Wowak" just became a new noun here at the office. Or is it a verb? Either way, we'll have to add it to the GRM to English dictionary.

I am curious about this one:

NBS2005 wrote: So I'm curious, have the average daily post counts gone down since the switch? I'd bet they have. Same with number of hits too. I'm not trying to pick on anyone and I know you guys have worked hard. But you've taken a site I spent a lot of time reading and enjoying and turned into something that is more trouble than it's worth. I'll probably peek in from time to time but I'm already looking for other cars sites to play on. BTW, I will keep using the archive site for it's information.

I saw no response. Have you seen an increase? I kind of share NBS2005's opinion on this one.

ok, now I have lines of text randomly showing up in the old typeface that had led me to complain about the typeface in the first place.
