Nothing important to add here, but I remember casually browsing for Maxs about 7 or 8 years ago. 4th, 5th, and 5.5th gens were cheap as hell. Shoulda bought one then. 2003-04 SE with the 6 speed was the sweet spot imo. Not sure about the generation in question, but that particular example seems,um, rough. As others have suggested an Accord/TL or 1st gen Mazda 6 probably ticks the boxes. I'll also throw out the Elantra. I'm not sure what gen it is, but the one that included 2011 seems to be available for around 6-7k with low miles and a stick. Not sure if it's big enough for the OP though.
