04 sti , a very fun DD with 4 doors and wicked fast on track or the street, just get some good rubber & an alignment for autoX & track days track days.

Those lancias are more like $40k for a good one here, and i think parts are a pretty big problem, like even oil filters and stuff.

true, but earlier Deltas are now into the "vintage car" age. Theoretically, one can be bought for cheap in Italy, say $5k shipping it over (drivetrain seperate from the car), reassemble, register as vintage kit car.

Or better, just bring the car over without drivetrain and drop one from an STi in there. Register as vintage kit car.

I'm sure it's not that easy, but I know people who have used this general system for bringing vintage non-US-spec cars over. I also know people who have had friends in the military based overseas buy foreign cars and ship them back as their personal vehicles when they return stateside...

now.... to address the specific problems with your specific post:

did I take a wrong turn, or is this not the GRM forum?? Since when are "Good condition" or "hard to find parts" key factors in deciding which car to buy here?

How about a GTO.. . . No not that GTO the Japanese GTO (Gran Turismo Omogolato) AKA the mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 Twin Turbo with AWD. For 15K you could probably get two.

Or how about a eagle talon / mitsubishi eclipse AWD turbo. I have always wanted to build one of these as a track toy.

Dad had a 3000 GT VR4. Big, heavy, ponderous. Not a track car by any stretch of imagination.

If I think about DSM it'll be a Galant VR4...
