I began taking apart the 125. When i pulled the cover from the air filter a most fetid stench assaulted me. I found a nest in there. As I dug in deeper it became obvious that it was a tomb, a bat tomb. I believe that my carb is beyond saving. Any suggestions on a replacement would be appreciated.

The piston needs a touch of cleaning. The cylinder looks very good I can see the cross hatching on the cylinder walls

Your not going to believe this but I'm telling you it works. PINE-SOL cleaner. Go down to the Family Dollar store get two quarts jugs for $3. Be sure to get the real pine-sol brand others may work but never tried. Buy a cheap as pot while your there. place carb in the pot and fill with pine sol and let it sit over night if you have hot plate warm it up no need to boil just warm makes it work faster. It will penetrate like nothing I've ever seen and will dissolve old gas and other goo's. Take good before and after pictures and post back.

I like that 44Dwarf's suggestion should, if nothing else, significantly de-bat-ify things. Even if the carb isn't resurrected, it should at least smell better and suck less to contemplating touching...

After 15 hours in Pine Sol the gunk is coming off. It appears that the aluminium housing is almost corroded through and the slide is looking pitted. I may not be able to save it, but it will be clean. I thought that I might be able to use the Pine Sol for cleaning something else. I might use it on the garage floor if it does not get much more murky and stinky. Pictures tomorrow.

I pour my used stuff back in the bottle and reuse. Coffee filter in a funnel helps rid it of chunks (flows better when warm, but stinks more too)

Oddly a new carb OEM is only $127.63 not bad concidering. You'll find new carbs with off the shelf jetting for around same price but then you need to reset the jets up. Think i paid $95 for the 28mm VM i put on my 74 MX250 and then another $15 worth of jets

In reply to 44Dwarf:

Where did you find that carb? From what I can figure out it has a VM32 SS. I have not been able to find that exact part. I have found a new VM32 33 for $90 about 40 miles from home. I might compare them and see what the difference is.

Does this Pine-Sol treatment clear JETS or is it just for carb body cleaning?

It will clean jets too to a point. Soak whole carb 1st then next day remove jet and soak some more. You'll still need to use a striped copper wire strand on the pilot jets side holes and center too but the goo will be loosened. Brass will have slightly dull finish.

Nice! Yup I'd say that carb is toast for sure. Your soak looks watered down. I use it straight out of the bottle but mine a few carbs old...so that could acount for it. Overall bike looks to be not so bad.
