I picked up a '80 Honda CB750K this week with the ambitious goal of turning it into something like the Wrenchmonkees bike.

Typical internet wisdom says the stock carbs hate pod filters and that keeping the airbox is the only way to make the bike run well. I'm not buying that.

Any thoughts on ditching the old stock carbs for modern-ish ones off a crotch rocket? Good idea? Bad? Best idea ever?!

I wish I could help you but I can't. I'm posting to thank you (as well as curse you) for showing me the awesomeness that is that wrenchmonkees site. www.wrenchmonkees.com for those who want to experience some serious bike inspiration...

Clem [goes off to find a tail light for my bike like the ones they use on theirs]

Their stuff is pretty sweet, and they'll gladly sell you that tail light.

I put individual K+N's on my CB550F Super Sport. They looked great and ran like crap, unless I closed the choke a bit.

Those filters demand new jets and a pipe.

yes it can be done. I'm in the process of installing 1988 gsxr750 carbs.

first rule of Wrenchmonkees is not to tell anyone about Wrenchmonkees...because then everyone will want a "Brat" bike.

Someone must have figured out how to Megasquirt that bike by now, with a set of throttle bodies off some late model four cylinder engine.

Look for a set of Mikuni Rs Flatslides or Keihin FCR Flat Slides and jet it for what you need. Used set of carbs should run you $350 - $500
