In reply to v8exocet:

On your trike, how are you maintaining chain tension? Is the swing arm pivot in the same place as the engine sprocket?

i did some rough engineering and took a link out and raised it from on the ground to a height that with suspension travel included it wont jump a chain.

Holy crap batman! More details please!

Sorry, didn't see this until now. I don't remember the name of the wheels but they are pretty common.

It's a Yamaha Raptor 700cc. I stripped it and added a lowering kit. It cornered so hard I had to take off the seat to get lower and to get my legs well planted against the sides. I can't imagine it with slicks. I've seen some videos of them tarmac racing and they are amazing. This project really taught me a lot about suspension design.

A guy chased me down one day (street legal) and was crazy about it. I finally sold it to him for the same amount I'd put into it and haven't seen it since.

The suspension geometry was going to require a fair bit of tweaking. Learning about this got me into playing with suspension design and tubular frame design. I've since designed a space frame mid engine project with a Stratos windshield so I guess it stuck. I'm currently reading Jan Zuijdijk's Vehicle Dynamics and Damping. I don't get most of the engineering but it's a fun hobby.

I still have that 4-2-1 ss Miata header on the wall. As new, never used. I can't seem to let it go! Wall art.

Does it have to be a silly contraption or pit bike? What about regular bikes with good stories and lots of miles?

Sure, those will work, too.

I'll be in touch with a few of you next week.

Here are two of my projects. One is a blue 75 Suzuki GT380 that already had a café conversions started. The other is a 79 TI Hawk what is a cross between a café and a custom. I just painted in Plymouth Plum Crazy Purple. I still don't know in which direction. I have included before and after pics of the Hawk.

I bought it new in 2010 after my first 2008 Yamaha WR250R was stolen. Currently has just under 43,000 miles on it, and I've yet to see the inside of the motor. I built it up to be a go-anywhere go-anytime no-excuses lightweight ADV touring bike. It was my only vehicle for 3 years, so I commuted on it nearly every day. It's been everywhere, from Key West to Deadhorse to Death Valley. Hopefully eventually I'll end up going all the way around with it.

This got pushed back a little bit, so I'm not in as much of a hurry as I was before. David and I are talking about it later today.

Just saw this thread. Sorry I missed out. Not exactly a moped (65 mph and great acceleration), but it has functional pedals!
