In reply to bravenrace: You get #23 in the pic, you can get stub shafts and axles as an other assembly as well for pretty cheap and then modify the axles to get the length you need. http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/images/diagramlg/0000027529.gif

You could then make, or have a shop make some sleeves that press over the diff bearing carriers (the stubs that stick out of the sides of the diff) that have an OD to slip into an off the shelf bearing pillow block for easy mounting. The bolt on ring gear is a nice feature in that you just don't bolt the ring gear on... you bolt a sprocket on that these guys will make to your specification. http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/ (really not that expensive either). Since they don't have clutches or very much mechanical action going on inside you can just pack em with grease and call it a day. Hell pop a zerk in it and grease it as much as you like. The cam and pawl is really great for off road, it acts open when you track a corner in normal fashion but stomp the go pedal and it locks like a spool and awesome power slides ensue :D The helical diffs are great for dsr cars but get a tire off the ground or in some slippery mud and it acts almost like an open diff.

Nobody said ya had to actually buy one. You can build your own w/ JY diff, parts (VW, Mini etc) and some machined adapters. Ain't that what yur gonna do w/ the Honda stuff n e way.

I don't know what a JY diff is, but why would I build something when I can buy the Honda ATV unit for $136? Really, I'm asking - What is the advantage? It looks to me like the ATV unit will do what I need it to, no?

You may want to do a little browsing on this website...
