Looks like I will be working on my granddaughter's 1999 Bug when she comes home for winter break.  I just found out that her check engine light has been on "forever" (she is taking music ed - not really focused on all of that maintenance stuff).  Car has about 80K miles now.  I did the timing belt, water pump, brakes, etc at about 75K miles, when she got the car.  No light when I handed it off and it passed smog check.

I need a reader to figure out what is triggering the code.  Inexpensive would be good.  Anyone have a recommendation?  Seems like there are 1,000s of these things on fleabay and I have no idea how specific to VW/Audi reader I need to get...

I use a OBDEleven for most of my VAG stuff. Pretty cheap and works wonderfully.
