James has taken a break from his usual antics and motorcycle building to take his Hennessey GT1000 Twin Turbo for a spin – with a rather disastrous end. This happened on a stretch of road that a bystander described as a “super twisty lane” near James’s house in Austin, Texas. He apparently overestimated his abilities as a driver and lost control of the 1000bhp super-car – crashing it into a neighbour’s yard.

I have mixed feeling. He is a talented fabricator, and seeing him on TV fabricating a gas tank is what convinced me to learn to shape sheet metal.

OTOH, he is rude, a narcissist, and a serial adulterer. Those far outweigh the good....

Never liked him. I'll leave it at that.

For all his faults- I like the guy. I don't know if it was for ratings (and likely it partially was, but was damn genuine appearing at a glance) but his appearance in the latest version of Teutul fight round 39 was amazing. He basically told the Teutuls they sucked to their faces, on live television. You could tell Paul Jr. was offended when Jesse called his bike a hunk of E36 M3, and wanted to go out and actually race the bikes to see whose was better. Sure he's a philanderer, but damn if I don't think there can't possibly be a more genuine "celebrity". Honesty is big in my world, and he's honestly an a$$hole.

weird.. i was just watching him on tv.. then as soon as the episode of American Chopper where he sent the cakes to the Teutuls gets over, i come here and find this..

i like Jesse.. he might be an asshat, but dammit, he's not afraid to show it and he doesn't hide from it. he doesn't pretend to be any better than he is- you'd never see all the fake outrage that Sr and Jr and their crews showed if they were to send him something like the cakes that he sent them- he'd just laugh it off and move on..

Put me in the 'never liked him' camp. He may be a talented fabricator but his asshat personality (whether manufactured or not) makes me want to be 100% certain I never put a dime in his pocket. I don't care if I never hear of him or that whole American Chopper crew ever again.

According to a Jalopnik commenter claiming to be his 14-year-old son, Jesse James did crash his Ford GT this weekend.

That, right there, is why I HATE Jalopnik. Nice fact finding mission, what are you a mental patient?

I also watched the bike build off thing (most of it, anyway) and shome of what jesse says rings true. When you are used to fabricating every part of the frame, tank and fenders yourself it is probably hard to be impressed by people who buy most of their parts off the shelf and then modify them.

As for the quality of the fabrication...I have never seen any of these show bike IRL, but I cannot imagine them being any better made than the front suspension of Nashco's N600. GRM has some really talented fabricators

I understand where Curmudgeon is coming from; I have never bought any jesse/wcc memorabilia...I waited until I had a house, then bought a welder and an english wheel.

i used to be a huge biker build off fan.. i thought billy lane and Jesse james and the tuetuls were the S$#t.. But jesse then startin bangin everything that moves, billy lane killed someone in a DWI wreck, and the teutuls bascially sold out IMO.. so i dont care really for any of them any more...

I'm not sure there are any qualities you highlighted that I would say are admirable. And comparing him to those two isn't exactly setting the bar high. Like, not even above ground.

I'm no fabricator, but I'll tell you this- If I had the ability to build the world's greatest chopper from raw materials dug from the Earth, I'd trade it for the ability to hold a civil conversation with my child. The example they put on television is deplorable. I don't dislike those two, I just feel really sorry for them. What a hellish life.

If he hadn't decided to be married and cheat all the time, I probably would've had no opinion at all of him. As it is, based on this and everything else, it really seems like he's just a 14 year old in a grown up body.

did anyone else catch the "Jesse James:Blacksmith" show that was on the History Channel this morning? it was on a 7am central time.. it showed his trip to Israel to learn from a master blacksmith.. then when he got back home he found a very rare vintage midget race engine that was based off a Harley Knucklehead but had air cooled cylinders and built a bike around it.. he actually got his engine pieces from the grandson of the guy that engineered it and got extra parts and expertise from one of the only guys in the world that actually knows anything about them. with the stuff he was talking about during those parts, you could just tell that he's a true gearhead with a very real respect for the history of internal combustion engines and the people that pioneered them a century ago..

his divorce from Sandra Bullock fell right in the middle of filming it and he talked about it a little bit..

it was pretty damn cool watching him learn how to do the blacksmithing stuff and applying it to building a bike.the bike had some issues where it wasn't reliable enough for him to take it on a planned road trip, but he took a bike he built to honor his dead dog across southern Texas.. like i said before- he might be an asshat, but he comes across as genuine whenever he's on tv. whether that's good or bad is subjective, but i like people like that.

I haven't seen the blacksmith show on History channel, but I have watched a series of metal fabrication videos he's posted on Youtube called Metal Church. In the videos he acts like a normal human being and is actually a pretty good instructor. He does have a real sense of history for craftsmanship and working with one's hands, and that at least is admirable.

However, as said he has a lot of other problems that are hard to get past.

So that confused the E36 M3 out of other people too? I was going to ask if he was drunk, but I guess I've just not seen enough of his posts...

I have yet to fully comprehend any of his posts. It's possible that they are entirely intended to be quite insightful...

It's not any clearer to me what you're saying here even when it's in the little box. I'm genuinely curious. I feel like I should be able to make sense of it, but I really just can't

Yeah, that was pretty ballsy.

He's a slime, but I respect his skills.

More importantly, good that he didn't kill anyone in that Hennessy wreck.

I'm gonna go try to find that blacksmith docu.
