I am thinking of writing a term paper for a history course regarding the presence of Ford in Louisville, KY from the manufacturing end. I have a good number of primary sources from our local paper regarding the factories, but was wondering if any industry people would be able to direct me to any information. This (theoretically) is scholarly work so Jim in HR is not a valid source, but if any of you who work for Ford know of anyone who wouldn't mind a few e-mails about the subject I'd be happy to have them.
At the same time second hand material is valid for this paper, if anyone knows any books or articles that could pertain to the subject I would be happy to know about them.
OTOH, at least Jim in HR would know who you could call, too.
I'm with Ford, and know nobody at any of our plants.

Related to that, Alfa, you guys hit the engine lineup out of the freakin' park on the 2011 F-150. The only one I'm meh about is the 6.2L.

Funny you should mention that- I just got two F150's with the EcoBoost. Should be an interesting 2011.

I've been to KTP a few times but it's been years and don't know anybody well enough to refer a stranger.
I would suggest going to the UAW local, looks like Local 862 for KTP and LAP, and either emailing them or going to the hall on the day of a meeting and try to talk to a committee person (or whoever looks like they have some authority) outside.
Explain the situation and what you're writing about (be prepared to sell yourself and the paper you will be writing), and they should be willing to direct you to an appropriate person in the plant. And no matter what, lineworkers often have a very different, and no less valid, view of the past and present of 'their' plant than say resident engineers. This viewpoint is often neglected in scholarly work.
Emails are one thing, but talking to people on site is where you will really learn about the history of a place.
