I've always thought Devo's cover of  "Satisfaction" brought the emotional-train wreck message of the song out perfectly.

The thing about music from any long past decade is that in most cases, the crap fades away, and the good stuff continues on.

That cover is brilliant.

I can play some Devo, but I think that one sits way above my pay grade.

Other than the whole, you know, writing it part, the cover is actually better than the original.

I'm pretty partial to their cover of Alan Toussaint's Workin In A Coal Mine.

I've tried to sing along with Mark. When he hits, "Baby-baby-baby-baby-baby-baby-baby-baby," I run out of breath. I've done it maybe 6 times in my life.

Who could forget their guest appearance as the bar band in Heavy Metal?

Devo have been a lifelong influence on me. The best. Thanks to a couple of older and cooler cousins I've been listening since the early stuff was current (even though I was like seven. Like I said, lifelong influence, or near enough).

One of my best friends and the other constant through a couple of bands has "Q: are we not men?" and "A: we are Devo" tattooed on his shins. We are on the same page.

I've gotten to see them play twice, and... it was good.

EDIT: and, er, folks may have noticed the avatar at some point.

Both Bob1 and Bob2 both played Gibson L6-Ss through the early years.

Guess what kind of guitar I have.

a few years later when i got to high school i started listening to WHFS 102.3 FM in Bethesda MD and boy did that change my musical outlook on the world.

devo has been in heavy rotation in my life since i got pandora (and now spotify).

Sad Panda still mourns the loss of the real WHFS, both at 102.3 and 99.1 FM.

It moves around a bit but you can totally hear the song in the bassline.

And notice Jerry Casale playing a right-handed bass upside-down. (Makes it extra fun trying to figure out exactly what he's doing sometimes.)
