So he decided to drive home while being chased by cops?

You know you are fleeing in a Smart Car when traffic is passing the chase.

on my trip to the Rolex .. I was rolling along on I95s at about 75mph … just loafing really .. and a smart car passes me as though I'm backing up … closing speed at least 15 - 20 mph

First time I ever saw one, was as it blew by me on the highway. I was doing 75 and it was going much faster.

I got blasted by a Smart on my way to Michigan. I was travelling in excess of 80 (on a secret road closed to the public ) and it was windy. Dude had a deathwish.

When I had mine I did 80-85 on a daily basis on my commute. It would break 90 if it had to :) They are a lot more fun that people think.

90 mph in a car with a wheelbase and track that are approximately the same as its height? I'd rather take my chances on a bike.

Surprisingly more stable than you'd think. Never really had any issues or scary moments other than it gets a tad light in the front end above 80 and you can do a "stoppie" if you hit the brakes hard enough ;)

I watched most all of that video (I skipped a few minutes in the middle) and thought that something entertaining was going to happen. Disappointed.

He didn't want the car going to impound...

Odd. It as more like he was being followed by the cop car. No lights

No sound @ work, I assume this video had "Yakety Sax" playing in the background, right?

In reply to iceracer:

I'm not sure he even did anything illegal. He was even using turn signals. I saw no attempt to actually pull him over either. That was the most polite police chase since OJ.

I wonder what would have happened if they attempted a pit maneuver. Probably would have been a tip maneuver...

Calling a Smart a "car" is a bit of a stretch, no?

Been up to 90. No issues. Very stable. Max speed is limited to 93 by Mercedes. More stable than my 75 Stingray.

Needed more Yakety Sax.

seriously. If you're being chased in a Smart, do what it does best. Don't try to outrun anything. Use your size to maneuver places the cops can't go. You're still going to get caught, but at least the people who have to watch the internet video will be entertained at some point.

Right up until he stopped in his driveway and police cars drove across his lawn and they gang-tackled him... but I was somewhat surprised the main car following didn't spin him.
