So, Mrs. Reven' and one Reven' Junior (the other one is away at college) made our annual trek to Home Depot today to get a tree.
The ex boyfriend of the Reven' Junior that's away in college works at Home Depot and as luck would have it he helped us with our tree (zero awkwardness, we adore him) but he broke about 6" off the top of our tree while loading it into our Exploder; no problem, we'll make it work.
Once we got the tree up we realized that the topper's ID was too narrow to allow for tree's new wider OD resulting from 6" being broken off.
Here's the Derp part...
I'm an engineer and I was debating between whittling the trunk down or building a step-down fixture with screws and bolts to create an adapter to get from the trunk's OD to the topper's ID.
Mrs. Reven' simply said "why don't you just drive a nail into the top of the trunk and slide the topper over it?"...she's a HR Admin....never, never, never over think things.

I used to play in an amateur pool league. We were ranked by handicap. I was the 2nd best player on the team and the best player was my coach for time outs. One match he was out of town so his very low ranked wife volunteered to be my coach. Yeah right. I got to a hard spot and just to give me thinking time I called a time out. She came up and asked me what I wanted to do. I told her but said I couldn't figure it out. She just innocently pointed to a spot on the pool table and said can't you leave the cue ball here? She had no clue how or if it was possible but after she said that I looked and go yeah I can do that. Best coaching I ever got.
Attending a Level III thermographer training class in a hotel meeting room. Nice setting, with snacks, coffee, tea, and soft drinks provided. A room full of thermographers, with a FLIR company guy teaching. Lots of expensive thermal imagers and experienced operators in the room.
Everyone complained about the temperature in the room - It was way too cool. Room temp indicated on the thermostat was not what we were experiencing.
It took the hotel handyman to figure out that the large coffee maker was on a table just under the thermostat, raising the indicated temperature well above the actual room temperature. Moved the table. Problem solved.
None of us had bothered to point our fancy cameras at the wall.
Perhaps the mods should rename this thread to something like: Can we please stop getting smoked by "less qualified" people.
Any other suggestions for a possible new thread title???
