Alright, where are all the erstwhile Robin Hoods?

My son did an archery camp this summer.  We have a couple ranges near us.  I believe I might have to invest in some gear. 

Pretty sure our neighbor has done some archery. (An arrow makes a good substitute curtain rod.)

This afternoon at 30ish feet-

Is this a recurves only club?

I've been shooting a 40lb Samick Sage for a few years now.  I have about a dozen arrows left, and all of them are beat up and mismatched.  And they're cheapo stuff that people bought for me that have vanes.  And you can forget about accuracy with vanes off a shelf.

I am dying to get a decent recurve. Just for kicks. I shot well in high school and would love to pick it up again.

I have a crossbow and it is a hoot to shoot.

Mine is a Ragim Wildcat plus, 68";28lbs at 28". 
 

I paid $140 for it. Set up, arrows, rest, and arm guard added another $60 to it. Got out the door for 200 bones.

Someone on here was making bows from scratch. 

Many years ago I had a 90 pound compound bow. One of the fiberglass limbs exploded one night and scared the ever-loving crap out of me.

I have my little bros 60lb recurve, but no decent arrows. Hard to find time to get to a range with small kids and all my other hobbies. One of these days when it cools down a bit. 

I have a Bear compound bow.   It showed up in a really random way.    Something like 13-14 years ago I bought a pair of boat seats for my dad and Cabellas sent him this instead.   He called them to point out they had mistakenly sent him a $1,000 bow and they said "well, we can't really take it back so just keep it".

He'd just undergone shoulder surgery and couldn't draw the thing so he gave it to me.

The Mrs. and I both like to do this. We bought bows for our kids too and they did it with us for a while. They are not as into it now but I think they will come and go with it. 

Here is a picture of my wife's new recurve. My friend made this custom for her, it is amazing and really fun to shoot. Her and I both have Mission compounds (the low end brand of Mathew's). I am seriously considering going recurve because it is so fun to shoot her new one.

Something about the draw stroke on a compound bugs me. Not sure what, but I much prefer the straight, smooth pull of a traditional bow.

Turns out that having a tight grip with the bow hand is not a good thing. Loosened my grip, and it tightened my groups.

I flung arrows for about an hour last night. Some good groups, some not so good groups... but I only missed the foam block once. So much win!!!

This is getting to be way too much fun...

29.5" draw @65-70 lbs. It's a solid 325 fps shooter. 

I haven't shot at all this year, my target and backstop haven't been set up since we bought this place over the winter.

I'm slowly making progress. Still need work on being consistent, but I'm starting to see groups in the 2" range all the way out to 18 yards. Still not confident enough to hunt, but getting closer. "Amateurs practice until they get it right, professionals practice until they can't get it wrong."

Looking good. Around me people are getting out to the range in high numbers now. Our deer season starts in 2 weeks.

So, arrow tuning is one of those things I can happily geek out about. One of my arrows has suffered the loss of some fletching... still flies and groups with the rest of them.

I should break out my bow and get some practice in. It's been a while.
