I was wondering if any of those boxes were still around. That's the first one I ever did! And it was also the time I learned I'm not very good at reading, hence the it's not actually a flat rate box

The weird metal thing (glad you found the other bolt) is an old-school set of earmuffs to flush a small outboard engine. The clock spring and not-shown sensor are airbag triggers from a 94-99 Toyota Celica, as is the front engine mount assembly. The water neck is for a Ford 5.0 but would need a new o-ring to work. The RC looking tires are RC tires. I can't remember what the spring-loaded bracket is and would have to see a picture.

The small can of Toyota EFI cleaner I have probably had since the early 90's. I just think it's cool. The carb is off my Kawasaki Mule 610. The carb cleaning kit and headlamp were both 2 for 1 Amazon buys. I like that headlamp as it does red light too. I wouldn't hold an engine with those chains, just sayin. The clamps, screwdrivers and 1/2 full bit case are from my large collection of random screwdrivers, clamps and, for some reason, 1/2 full bit cases. Night Probe is a great intro to Clive Cussler if you don't know his stuff.

The Tampa postcard is from the Tampa Theatre, a fine classic movie palace with Wurlitzer organ, and one of the first air conditioned buildings in the city. The photo is of my nephew sitting on a rusted car somewhere out West.

Everyone needs more sanding discs, a Cowboy Junkies CD, and a small planer to clearance a sticky door. I love maps, glad you do too. The coozie "It's all Good", were made in memorium for a good friend who died far too young from cancer. The loss of her boundless optimism left a big hole in our local community.

The metal polish and deck book were targeted as I knew you may have a need. The metal polish was a close as I could get to something for your DMC.

There also should have been a very small, black metal tool with a hole in it. It's a super handy Gerber multi-tool.

Oh, and everyone should have more BigAssTruck in their life.

I got my box late last week, but have been swamped, so without further adoo...

A webcam because I don't spend enough time on Teams and Zoom calls...

So much better than the imprecise filters that I have been using.

A distributor cap for...a car of some kind.

A knuder valve?  The BOV from the 1988 IMSA Audi Trans Am car?

An air intake/throttle body. So cool, I want to use this somewhere.

Another distributor cap, in red!

A shower head, for use in an RV I assume.

Saab windows switches IIRC.

Hose clamp for a 1994 VW Corroado.

Battle-ready pencils.

Audi Sport Quattro Hot Wheel!  I am in love. Also a Lambo Police car and an old Merc' reace car.

Book 2, I may have to buy Book 1 first because it is interesting to me.

Something to smoke weed from? AC compressor thingy? Rifle sighting device?

V-belt from a 2000 Marcos Mantra.

OMG I love these and have already put them to work while re-wiring the bathroom and living room.

A calendar that syncs up with where my projects are stuck.

Some hack magazine about classic cars...

Old VW window washer pressure tester.

Magic tape. It changed my cat into a toad.

Odd looking Viagra.

Bags, which I both love and will totally use.

Rubber feet, perfect for rubber legs.

An amazing collection of stickers, glitter Jar-Jar Binks? Hells yeah.

Thanks so much to the sender, I am away from the box so I can't recall whom this amazin person was but I will update as soon as I can get away from online meetings.

I completely missed this when you posted it, oops.  The throttle body is for a 4 banger last gen SAAB 9-3, it may work.  I think one of the caps is for a 90 Celica, I have no idea what the other one is for.  There should have been a thin sheet magnet, about the size of a piece of paper.  I have been putting my stickers on the sheet and cutting it out so they can be moved around.

Ok, so looking at all the recipes you're posting up with stuff we can't get here, what spices did you use here that you can't get there?  The thought of having to change my repertoire of dishes because I couldn't get certain things is just hard to fathom.  I'm thinking I wouldn't have to worry about my Italian dishes, but would I still be able to do my Mexican dishes?  And since that's some of my picky daughter's favorite stuff, how would I keep her fed?  Dang!

You nailed it with the Mexican spices.  Cumin, chili powder, and cilantro are GOLD out this way.  I've got a couple dealers lined up for the cumin and chili powder, but the cilantro I have to grow myself.  Masa and corn husks we can get from a Mexican food store in Austria... eventually it all comes together wink.  Canned refried beans are completely out of the question as are corn tortilla shells (we do both from scratch).

But maaaaaan, when I fire up the slow cooker we really do it up and the whole town turns out (well, the American side at least).  We usually do a few kilos of Carnita meat, loads of tamales, and all the drinks and sides (horchata, tequila, etc) too.  We make it a point to do an event at least once a year for all the expats out here.  I think it's the challenge of getting all the ingredients together that makes it special.

Good times

Yep, I'd be in trouble, or spending a lot of money!  You do get spoiled when you've got a good local selection.  The town I'm in has a huge Mexican population, and two doors down from my warehouse is the best bakery in town.  When the dock doors are up and the bakery is rocking, you just have to tell everyone you'll be back in a few minutes & walk over to pick up some goodies.  Every Friday, they have tamales at lunch time, and occasionally I'll walk over and buy lunch for everyone.  I had never really been a tamale person before, but holy cow, these are amazing!  They even have a cheese and pepper one that I can get for my vegetarian secretary.  I had to stop going to one restaurant that I loved because I didn't have enough self control to stop eating the entire plate of carnitas, and I was putting on weight.  Dang, now I'm thinking about making a breakfast burrito after talking about all of this food!

Hopefully like it once was back in the before times, in the long long ago with the green onions and such and not just the tomatoes and cheese and unidentifiable stuff that it died wearing.

I agree about hoping that it's the same as I remember it being 20+ years ago and not what it was the last time I had one... but I don't know how much of that was actual difference in the taste vs. nostalgia...

Thanks! I'll have to look and see if I can find the multitool- if it's that small it might have been under one of the lower box flaps. The deck book is definitely good to have even if I won't be building the deck for the cottage myself- we've talked at points about rebuilding the covered deck/porch on the back of our house and perhaps ironically that I might be more up for doing myself (it's a lot easier to build something in your backyard vs. 2 hours away...). Unfortunately it's likely going to be some time before I'll be worrying about how good the stainless on the DMC looks, I've got to get the frame back to not being a crash waiting to happen and dozens of other things worked out before it's back together and I have to worry about the skin. But hoepfully the polish will come in handy down the line!

Be careful, the masa is often mixed with with lard and meat broth to make the outside of the tamale. You can use vegetable broth and Crisco for vegetarian tamales. Hoping they really go vegetarian on theirs, otherwise you may have created another omnivore.

The moment has arrived! A mystery box all the way from Sadscratchythong!

How did Bill know to pair us up based on our matching practical box opening tools? Truly incredible work. I carefully followed the very specific instructions to cut through the white Gorilla tape and reveal the box's contents in the intended manner.

First, I found a Canadian margarine container and some bubble wrap.

Inside the margarine container, we have instant apple cider mix, automotive-themed coffee pods, and DANGEROUS BANNED CANDY! Fantastic.

On the next layer, there was this little Yokohama sign. It's not a sticker, it looks like it came off a store display or something. Also, awesome Hot Wheels! I admit, I'm not really into collecting them, but these two are way cool: a Rampage and a Safari'd-out 914! Also some kind of mystery toy that I think I'll save for one of my friends' kids.

Next up, Some fancy safety glasses, a lanyard with an "NG" logo I can't identify, one yellow LED fog light, an -6 AN hose end, the de rigeur 10mm socket, and some bigass bolts.

The next layer contained a retro-style Stanley flask (sadly empty) and some strange alternate-universe M&Ms.

Finally, we hit the main vein: several old car and bike publications, including what appear to be some FJ Cruiser promotional materials, and more stickers that will surely find a home on one of my toolboxes soon.

Thanks DjGreggieP! Sufficient.

**EDIT**

Looks like it arrived!!

The NG lanyard is a group here called 'Next Gen' car group, the flask and safety glasses are re-gifts from years past.

The blue truck coffee is from Princess Auto up here. The hotwheels were destined for the GRM box the minute I saw them. The old magazines I had been holding onto in a box tucked away for a long time and completely forgotten I had them until recently due to events, so I had to share them!

Glad you enjoyed it!!

The whole haul! Was unable to take pictures as I was unboxing as I had a cat getting into the packing peanuts, then running with them stuck to him, then a dog chasing a cat running, then a dog trying to eat the packing peanuts...

There is a lot of goodies here, lugnuts, stickers, fuses, ridiculously strong magnets, a whole bunch of vacuum line connectors, couple gauge pods (may actually be handy, need to check present gauge sizes) bottle openers, seatbelt assembly that retracts better than the one in my BMW, a BMW rondel, looks like center caps for a mitsubishi, a variety of hardware, a rad cap post and two things that shall baffle me. Headlight bulbs and a container of cookies. The bulbs survived the entire journey here unscathed. The container of cookies got broken in transit.

Thank you JC (senders initials, uncertain of screen name) was a wonderful box to receive!!!

A couple notes on your box:

My goal was not to use any packing materials, but the foam peanuts were thrown in to fill the space left behind by the energy drink and hot sauce selections I removed at the last minute for fear of freezing. Maybe next year I'll get someone in a more southerly direction so I can ship stuff like that safely.

The magnets were all pulled out of scrap hard drives at work.

My mom made the cookies.

If you've never used one of those twist-handle ratchets before, it's a life-changing tool. That one has some miles on it but still works fine. I hope it comes in handy on some projects.

The 2008 Subaru Legacy brochure is real JDM, yo. The plastic bag of paper it was shipped inside is a sample packet of heavy-weight coated paper from the mill I used to work at.

Do you have ANY IDEA what it costs to ship just barely under 20 pounds of junk via "Priority" (actual delivery time 14 days) to Canada!?

If you have any more questions on the stuff, fire away. One request--could you post a better close-up of the seat belt webbing? :)

You'll need to log in to post.
