A thousand times this. So much easier to scrub off 5-7MPH at the end and slip into traffic, than to try to pick up the same amount of speed causing the whole right lane to slow allowing you to get up to the speed you should have been running.  But of course that would require your fellow highway travelers to put down their phone and think about what they are doing, so of course it's a rare occurrence.
