socialism? nope, no socialism here....
discuss.
I got that email too... I tried to keep my opinion out of these things but my thought is that Washington may as well be moved to Baghdad. No one in either city really understands what goes on in an average American household.
I signed up to host an Economic Recovery House Meeting.
Unfortunately, I was forced to withdraw my name from consideration when information surfaced indicating that I had failed to pay taxes on an undocumented housekeeper.
Damn.

Can mine have some kind of kickass logo on it? Like a hawk chewing on a rat or something? If so, sign me up, fuhrer.
dudes, i'm signing up as a participant and i'm going to give them my full attention. and you should too.
So that's where Obama's money came from - Tupperware!
Gee and I've been worried about his huge campaign contributions from overseas.
How is this socialism?
Mirriam Webster said: so·cial·ism Function: noun Date: 1837 1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods 2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state 3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done
I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm really just asking. From the definition above it doesn't seem to fit.
This news is boring. I was hoping there were going to be funds for stimulating the local economy, by following Bank of America's recent example.
I want to see a real Communist party, I'd be totally down for one:

+1
A dumb idea for sure*, but nothing socialist about it.
*On the upside, no things were blown up, no laws were put in place and no significant money was spent in the implementation of this dumb idea.
Found one of the meetings at the local Public Library for this Saturday. But pre-regisration has already reached the maximum number of attendees.
(15)??

Man, Karl looks wasted.
That scene needs to be printed on a T-shirt.

I hope you were being sarcastic. It is a t-shirt: http://www.threadless.com/product/383/The_Communist_Party
hehe gotta love where I live, not one of these things for 50 miles. Live in an area where the major industry is logging. If I searched for my address from last year nothing for more than 150 miles lol.
maybe im a bit naive. but looking at this is seems to me, more of a grassroots effort to get people involved and educated on what changes are being implemented, or considered, nationally and locally. Im not so sure that's a bad thing. Are we so used to being excluded from active participation, or at least communication with/ in our government that when that opportunity finally comes up, it scares us? if thats what this is, im not really sure? well, except for the one meeting i saw listed on "repealing the new prohibition against pot and coke " meeting.
anyway, at least on the surface, im not really seeing a problem with people getting together to discuss government direction, seems the opposite of socialism to me...

If you think this distraction is a good idea, Comrade, I suggest you read the bill as passed by the House. None (or very little) of what I've read in there has ANYTHING to do with stimulating the economy or creating jobs. For instance, $650,000,000 for digital TV converter boxes.
Well, wouldn't one of these meetings be a really good outlet for letting others know your problems with it?
Discussion on the internet tends to get pretty heated hidden behind the veil of anonymity. Being able to discuss this locally seems like a much better venue for actually informing people. Print out that bill and let others read it; it has to be better than whatever CNN or Fox News has to say.
Don't have time to read the whole thing?
Here are some summaries written by the people who support it (which simply means they've given it the best twist they can give it).

The Big Obam is working hard like a good magician to distract the audience so you don't see how the trick is performed. Very little of this is what I was expecting be in a national stimulus package. It's picking & choosing individual industries/campaign contributors to stimulate. If you happen to be one of those people then you have been stimulated, but mostly it's just a SPENDING BILL composed of things they haven't been able to get passed previously and doesn't stimulate the economy in general.
