I think we are next in Debby's sights. The Mid-Atlantic is only expecting 4 to 8 inches, but when you are only a few feet above high tide, it makes for a lot of easy flooding.

Here's the southern NC coast:

We've had close to 10" of rain so far.  On Sunday, my son and I went for a sail and nearly got beat to death trying to get past the breakers. Probably an 8 foot swell now and 25mph winds gusting to 40.  Double red flags are up and water rescue has been up and down the road a half dozen times today, presumably to fish out over confident tourists.  There is a voluntary evacuation order (whatever that that's supposed to mean) in place.

Got no power, might be the weekend at earliest before we get it back.

The FirstEnergy outage map for my area is... alarming.

I am told this is hurricane related but like Marcus Gronholm, I am not a meterologist.

In reply to Apis Mellifera :

The voluntary evac we get is just the warning for people with medical issues etc. The next step is once you leave the island(St Pete Bch), you aren't coming back. The final step is they drive around and announce on a PA, "You gotta go". When we had or own police force they would knock on doors and if you told them you were staying they handed you a permanent marker to write SS# on your body so you could be identified easily later. We have county sheriff now, not sure they go that far.

Best Storm Rule: You can hide from wind but you need to run from water.

Round 2 of Debby does charleston is hitting now.  I believe it is going to make landfall Thursday morning.

Expecting another 2 to 5 inches of rain.

So far, no real problems that won't be gone in a week.

So...  this is still a thing.  River flooded another 1 foot in 24 hours.  The basins are full and starting to overflow.  Expecting my neighborhood to have 2 or 3 feet of water.

Supposed to keep raining here for another 6 days.

Have like 90 road closures in my county.  They told everyone to stay home (i saw a state of emergwncy was referenced by the city) for the weekend so they can get 1st responders where they need to go.

The southern NC coast right now:

Another band came through last night and dumped 2 more inches of rain. The road along the coast is under a foot of water in some spots. We had some blue skies and sunshine earlier, but back to grey now. The sea state is a little rough, but just about normal.

Back at you.

We are good. We are one of the highest lots in the neighborhood and I had the roof replaced after the deluge of 2015. We are high and dry.

So, is all the rain in the east due to the same system?  The were talking about a foot or two of rain around Montreal in the last few days, Pete mentioned rain on Cleveland, iirc.

Weather here in Saskatchewan is lovely.  Bit cool and breezy this past week, but that was just because I was on holidays at the lake.

The Edisto River near 95/26 crested today 12 ft higher than pre Debby.  That's inland about 50 miles from downtown Charleston.

We will see if that was the crest...  the ashley river crested afew hours ago...  then we got a thunderstorm... itsback up to peak ad the neighborhood flooded some more.

Literally any more moisture goes right back into flood waters.  Drains / swamps / lakes / rivers all full.  If I pee in my backyard, it immediately adds .0003" to the depth of my neighbors flooded back yard.

Everything below my house is underwater.  My house is fine.

this pic is from our 95 acres park in our neighborhood.  This is normally about 12 feet above the Ashley River.  As you can see, it isnt...

That's pretty wet. Hopefully, the rain will calm down over the next week or so and the new low-pressure system will stay offshore. We certainly don't need any more water.

Yeah Debby dumper rain everywhere but where we needed it, which is on the east coast of Florida where we're way under our usual rainfall total for the year at this point. She just hugged the coast all the way north, staying far enough east to keep drawing Atlantic water and depositing it inland.

The good news is it looks like our next system is heading out into th Atlantic and giving the east coast time to dry out for a bit.
