my first DSLR was a pentax k10d... it was an EXCELLENT camera and offered a lot of features that similar level nikon/canon didn't... the "kit lens" that comes with pentax is actually rated better by a good margin over the nikon/canon kit stuff... in the end I moved to canon... pentax glass is just as good as nikon or canon if not better but because the used market is smaller the used glass market is much smaller... also they moved to a smaller body size which didn't fit me nearly as well
as far as bodies... the last I looked if you don't want full frame pentax was using the best standard size sensor on the market... but they moved to smaller body size vs what they had been doing with their prosumer line... the size was also a factor in me moving away
