Minutes after a SUV was carjacked from a Milwaukie hospital Saturday afternoon, the woman accused of taking it crashed on the Hawthorne Bridge, narrowly missing dozens of people.

Witnesses said Alicia Nicole Davis, 32, was going more than 100 mph in the Toyota Sequoia when it crashed, less than 20 minutes after it was taken from a parking lot at Milwaukie Providence Hospital.

The vehicle broke through a guardrail, sailed through the air and rolled multiple times before slamming into a building more than 50 feet away, though some witnesses put that distance closer to 75 feet.

A large chunk of guardrail flew though the air, striking a homeless woman who was sent to OHSU Hospital in Portland with an arm injury. Davis also was taken to the same hospital with no obvious injuries.

The vehicle's path narrowly missed dozens of homeless peole and youth volunteers who were gathered nearby when the crash happened.

Roger Burke was leading a group of about 20 youth from the charity Cityteam as they handed out coffee and donuts at a homeless camp north of the bridge.

"Everybody was shook up, and we took the youth back to Holy Trinity church, debriefed them and stayed a while," Burke said. "Even the police were saying 'how did she live through that?'"

Milwaukie police were dispatched at 12:30 p.m. to a reported carjacking at the hospital, 10150 S.E. 32nd Ave. The Toyota's owner, a woman, had been sitting in her car in the parking lot when Davis approached and threatened to use a knife if the woman did not give her the car, police said. The victim did not see a knife, but turned over the SUV.

Eighteen minutes later, a Cityteam worker watched the car launch off the bridge, clearing a 12-foot-high fence and an even taller tree before hitting the ground and then a building.

The Cityteam worker rushed to the car, where Davis was unresponsive and appeared not to be breathing. She resumed breathing as the worker removed her seatbelt, but he was unable to extract her from the car. Portland Fire & Rescue crews arrived within minutes and got Davis out.

Police are on the scene and investigating the crash. Davis faces charges of second-degree robbery and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The youth who witnessed the incident are scheduled to continue volunteering Saturday night, feeding dinner to the homeless at Cityteam's Southeast Grand Avenue location.

"They're busy doing stuff to keep their minds off it," Burke said.

A Washougal woman who struck a 5-year-old boy with her pickup truck, then hid from officers by crawling into a shallow hole and covering herself with dirt, was arrested Friday after a police dog found her, officials said.

Marsha Yumi Perry, 36, gave herself up after the canine signaled where she was and a Washougal officer -- who couldn't yet see her -- shouted out warnings that he was about to unleash the dog, police said.

"The ground moved, and she sat up," said Washougal Sgt. Geoff Reijonen.

Police don't believe drugs or alcohol were involved, but Perry was driving with a suspended license and had a misdemeanor warrant out for her arrest at the time of the incident, shortly after 6 p.m., police said.

Officers were called after the boy was struck after riding a Big Wheel out of a driveway and onto North 22nd Street. He suffered a cut to his face and scrapes to his knees and elbows, police said, and was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver.

Witnesses said Perry tried to drive off, but when she was unable to do so, she got out of her 1994 Ford F-150 pickup and began walking north toward Washougal River Road, police say.

Officer Kyle Day and his police dog, Ranger, tracked Perry's scent through a field south of the 1800 block of Woodburn Road, police said. The dog stopped within 5 feet of the hole Perry was hiding in, police said.

That's when Day yelled out two warnings that she'd better come out or he'd unleash the dog, Reijonen said.

Perry was arrested on accusations of felony hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license and on a misdemeanor warrant. She was taken to Clark County Jail.

Police are still investigating the incident. Camas and Vancouver police helped in apprehending Perry.

Perry was arrested in Portland in November 2014, under accusations of methamphetamine possession, identity theft and giving false information to police. She pleaded not guilty, and that case is still pending.

So, f-150 hits little boy and plastic big wheel. Little boy suffers scrapes and cuts, but otherwise uninjured.

That f-150 though, was so crushed up it was unable to continue.

Boy must be superman.

Tangent: Interesting how baddies surrender more readily to a police dog than a human officer equipped with a taser or a gun. Police dogs are awesome.

Or the big wheel was a fancy one made out of metal instead of plastic. Then again, given the poor reporting by the local rag, there may be a missing section about the fact that the driver hit something else in the process of fleeing.
